James Scarpetti

Monroe Twp.

James Scarpetti of Monroe Twp. lost his brave battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home. Born in Manhattan, NY, Mr. Scarpetti lived there until moving to Monroe Twp. in 1960. He was employed for 25 years by the Middlesex Co. Road Dept., retiring in 2000 as an assistant foreman. Previously he was employed by Phelps Dodge, Dayton. He was a communicant of St. James RC Church, Jamesburg and a member of the St. James Knights of Columbus. He loved puzzles, cross words, western movies and was an avid Yankee fan. He was Frank Sinatra's greatest fan, just ask the neighbors who heard Frank singing from his home every Sunday morning.

He is predeceased by his parents, Orazio and Lena Scarpetti; his sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Nick DePalma; his brother-in-law, Duke Tancredi; his sister-in-law, Nancy Tancredi and his brother-in-law, Frank Faraone. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Tancredi Scarpetti; his son, James of Jamesburg; his granddaughters, who he adored, Leah and Kara; many nieces and nephews who he considered his own children; three brothers-in-law, Buddy, Richard and John Tancredi; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Faraone and Pat and Marie Tancredi; many very close cousins, wonderful friends and great neighbors and Nina Tanis, his angel, friend, caretaker, from the beginning to the end. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Services will begin 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18th at the Lester Memorial Home, 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg followed by a 10 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. James RC Church, Jamesburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Wednesday, July 17th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.
