Janet Lalk Obituary

Janet Lalk
Janet Elizabeth Lalk, 80, of Viera, FL and Midland, MI passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2023 surrounded by family and close friends. Jan was a loving wife and mother, a kind and supportive friend - always there when needed. She could be fiery at times with her opinions, driven by passion, protectiveness, and sense of fairness. She will be dearly missed. Jan's family is saddened to see her go, but at peace her battle was not extended and she rests in heaven free and painless surrounded by those that passed before her.
Jan was born on March 23, 1943 to Robert and Elizabeth Sampson in Detroit, MI.
Growing up, Jan enjoyed her time at Burroughs Farms with family and friends that shaped her life. Jan graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1961, she went on to achieve an Associate's degree from Michigan State University.
In 1968, Jan met Chip (Robert) at Boyne Mountain while skiing. They went on to have 2 daughters, Andrea and Shelly. Over the years Jan lived in Michigan, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Florida. As her daughters flourished in Midland, Jan worked as a receptionist at Family Dental Center. She enjoyed a close bridge circle - friends that stood the test of time – and singing in Sweet Adelines with friends in both Florida and Michigan.
Jan is survived by her husband Chip; daughters and family Andrea and Casey Bracher, Shelly and Doug Pratt, grandchildren and family Loganne and Seth Bunton, Morgan and Jaiden Pratt, Craig and Sarah Bracher, Erin and Scott Derouchie; and great grandchildren Lucas Bunton, and Caitlin, Christopher, and Isla Bracher.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life at Advent Lutheran, Viera, FL on April 17th at 11am and Trinity Lutheran, Midland, MI on June 9th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The American Cancer Society and Alzheimer's Association, organizations Jan felt strongly about.

I was thinking of Jan as I decorated my Christmas tree in December. Her friend and co-worker, Candy, made intricate Christmas ornaments, and I have several. They reminded me that Jan loved her friends, could make us laugh, and she was always compassionate when a listening ear was needed. I miss her friendship and laughter.

Chip, Andrea and Shellie-
We were so sorry to hear of Jan's passing. We will always remember the fun times we shared in Kentucky--especially the square dancing lessons that Jan so cleverly roped us into!!! We had such good times together dancing our way through our time in Kentucky. May God bless you and your families during this difficult time.
With love,
Kathy and Hank

I sang with Jan in Sweet Adelines and we both attended Advent Lutheran Church together. Although I no longer reside in Florida I heard about Jan's passing through the church e-mail. I was so sorry to hear this news and my heart goes out to Chip and the rest of the family. Jan was a special person and she will be missed.

Sincerely,
Carol Walter

Dear Shelly,
I just got the newspaper and was saddened to read of the passing of your dear mother. Your mom and dad were one of my favorite pom parents. Saw your mom at Meijer´s not too long ago and had a nice talk with her. I asked about you and she filled in on all the latest news! I´m sending my sincere sympathy to you and your entire family. Cherish all the good memories, and remember the good times. May the angels welcome her to paradise. God Bless!

Jan was a treasure and we will miss her laughter and her thoughtful handmade gifts. I loved talking with Jan at bridge and when we had one-on-one time because she was open, honest, and compassionate. I pray for the family to have peace and comfort as the treasure their lifetime of memories with this special lady.
