I just found out John has passed. My thoughts are with Joan and family. He was a man I truly respected and admired. I can honestly say he inspired me to be the ski shop owner I am today. I will miss him.

Angels watching over you.

Thank You, Mr. and Mrs Binz for everything from first grade field trip tour and being apple seeds in the giant apple on the farm, family fall drives to the orchard for cider and donuts, family birthday and anniversary celebrations, my job as a salad girl while in college (which included generous meal benefits, ski and shop discounts). Another incredible memory such as the time my dad bought himself and me new cars. Dad took me to Binz to celebrate. When we gave my mom dinner mintz from Binz, she was more concerned we went to Binz without her than the cars we purchased!

I didn't know Mr. Bintz, but he must have been quite a guy. I remember we used to go over there and pick raspberries in the late 50's or early sixties. a lot of people in the area probably don't know that he built that mountain. I remember the earthmovers hauling in the dirt. Nobody could believe he was building a ski mountain. Then they also had the apples and cider and donuts at that time, and we'd go to the store there and buy some of the dill bread they made themselves. It was a good family experience in the summer and fall, besides the skiing.Quite an accomplished man.

My sincerest condolences to the Bintz family. I had the pleasure of learning how to ski on your mountain and the honor to care for him the last few months. Joan you have an incredible family and I will truly miss you and John at the clinic. Your family is in my prayers, I hope you can find comfort in the amazing memories you have of John.

My deepest thoughts and prayer goes to the entire Bintz family. Joan, you will always be Mrs. Bintz to me. You sold me lift tickets and poured me Hot Cider on those wintery cold days. My father was a good friend of John and helped him when his earthmover had a bad tire when building the ski hill. I remember the free pass John gave me his first year opening. I don't think there was a family in the Tri-City area who didn't go to the Orchard, restaurant or ski-hill. What fond memories I have of the Bintz's.
Thank you for being a part of my Life. Markus Kurtz

I worked for John and Joan as a ski instructor until 1982 when we moved to Texas. Many great memories of John's smiling face and wonderful family. Whenever I skied at Vail I'd visit Heidi, and if John was also there, he would include me as part of the family, taking us all out to dinner. I never missed visiting the Bintz's when in Saginaw visiting relatives and friends.

Sincerest condolences to the entire Bintz family. So many fond memories learning to ski, nights at the lodge, shopping at the pro shop...you always knew it was a special event if you were planning an evening at your restaurant (my Mom remembers the wonderful salad bar - I remember the wonderful steaks). I moved to Vail, CO ('85) and enjoyed many years on the slopes thanks to the good times experienced learning the ropes (literally:o) at Bintz's Apple Mtn...Thank you for all of the wonderful memories and may you rest in peace knowing how much happiness your businesses brought to the community.
