Kenneth Timmons Obituary

Kenneth Gordon Timmons, 86, passed away suddenly Oct. 20, 2015, in Fort Myers, Fla. Loving husband of Lucy (Cau) Timmons, father of sons Dan and Joe Timmons, daughter Amy Timmons Bell, grandfather of Ryan Timmons and Sarah Binder. Kenneth was born in Midland, Mich., to Francis (Big Tim) and Doris (Delaney) Timmons, and sister Patricia Timmons Bushey (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and late brother-in-law Richard Bushey (Palm Harbor, Fla.). Loving uncle to Michelle (Timmons) Bushey (New Orleans, La.) and Mike (Timmons) Bushey (Deerfield Beach, Fla.), Tim Carnago (Daytona Beach, Fla.), Greg Carnago (Birmingham, Mich.), Kathie (Carnago) Lefere (Wyoming, Mich.), Doug Jungclaus (Seattle, Wash.) and Matt Jungclaus (York, Penn.). Loving brother-in-law to Joanne (Cau) and Dieter Jungclaus of Cape Coral, Fla., and to the late Jerry and Gloria (Cau) Carnago of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Loving father-in-law to Jack Bell, Nikki Timmons and Connie Timmons.

Ken was a star athlete at Midland High School, lettering in basketball, football and baseball. He received a scholarship to The University of Detroit, where he played forward in basketball and pitcher in baseball. He was always saying how grateful he was to "U of D," and that he was proud to support the school by getting his master's degree there when he had other less costly options at the time.

Ken truly loved being a history and government teacher at Livonia Bentley and Churchill High Schools, where he also coached basketball, baseball and golf. Many said he taught or coached what seemed like half the students of Livonia in his 36 years of teaching.

After his retirement, Ken served as Livonia School Board President and member. He also served as President of the Livonia Education Association, and helped form junior golf leagues in Livonia.

The family will hold a memorial luncheon/dinner in Michigan to celebrate his life, at a date to be determined. Please contact the family at [email protected] for further information.

I know I'm late by about 9 years, but Ken was a big influence in my life. Not only was he my basketball coach for JV my sophomore year, but also my varsity coach my senior year in 1970. He was always encouraging me and spent time analyzing my game and giving me tips when I was about ten years old. He was also the sponsor for the AFS club throughout my high school days. This was an organization which brought foreign exchange students to Bentley which was a very important organization to me. He was always kinds, encouraging and positive man. I think of him often and fondly.

I am so sorry to hear of Coach Timmons passing. He was my golf coach at Churchill from 1988-1991. I can remember him driving me to tournaments in the Summer and to practice when I was a freshman (with about four or five other kids pretty much all the time) in his Dodge minivan. He was a kind and passionate man. He loved golf and he showed so much care for us kids. He wanted us to develop as players but more so as members of society.

Just a great human being. I hope to see you on the other side.

Peace!

My condolences to the Timmons family.
I played basketball and baseball with Ken at U OF D FROM '50 TO '54 and have many great memories of him as a young student-athlete.
I lost track of Ken as we went in different directions, but am not surprised to read the many kind words attesting to his success and character as a teacher. He was always fun to be around and very hard working. If a memorial service is arranged , I would like to be notified.

I had the privilege of serving on the Livonia Board of Education with Ken, and his love of kids and the school district came through in everything he did. He was a friend to many, and will be missed.

I will miss my older brother Ken and cherish all the fond memories we had of growing up in Midland and attending Midland senior High school. He led an exemplorary life and raised a fine family. You will be missed Ken.

Mr. Timmons was my history teacher at Bentley HS in the late 1970's. I was making foolish mistakes during that time of my life and he was one of the few good examples in my life. I got a well deserved E the first semester of my class with him. He called me to his desk and said to me "you did not even try, you can do better than this". I got a A the next semester. He agonized over the fact that although my grade bounced back my E was sooo low I still got a C for the final grade but he did the honest right thing. I always remembered his good example of honesty and encouraging people to excel. Blessing to you Amy and all of your family. Debbie Test

Sad day today to learn of the passing of Mr. Timmons. He was a good man and always made me laugh. I always enjoyed visiting with him when I went to see my friend Dan. Got to watch some good basketball with those two. I will never forget him.
