Murray Northup Obituary

Murray was born in Boyne City Michigan in 1938, seven minutes before his twin brother Nels. He graduated from Boyne City High School in 1956 and earned his Bachelors and ultimately his Master's degree at CMU in 1968. In 1963 he moved his young family to Midland where he became a lifelong resident. He worked at Dow Corning for 42 years retiring in 1998.
Murray is survived by his brother Michael, sons Kevin (Debbie), and Jim (Heike), and his daughter Teri. He also has 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife Janet, brothers Nels and Bill his sister Nancy and his granddaughter Nicole.
Murray was married to Jan, the love of his life, for 65 years He was a loving husband and a devoted father to his kids. His passion was golf and he was a lifelong member of the United States Saturday Amateur Golf Association, serving as the commissioner for over 20 years. His propensity for getting into and out of the sand traps earned him the nickname "Big Cat" from his friends. He was an avid sports fan following and rooting for the hometown Chemics and Chargers as well as the Tigers, Lions and Wolverines-win or lose.
Murray lost his battle with chronic heart failure on September 8, 2025.
He will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to play golf with Mur almost daily at Currie. He was always good for a joke or any type of fun. He will be missed .
