Steven Saxton Obituary

Steven Saxton
Steven "Steve" Daniel Saxton, age 69, of Midland, Michigan, entered heaven's gates on the arm of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 25, 2024.
Steve was born on January 25, 1955 in East Jordan, Michigan to Gayle Bradley and Rea Rae Saxton. He grew up in Houghton Lake, Michigan where he met and married Joyce Kamplain, who was the love of his life and his "bestest" friend. They created a wonderful life together, most of which was spent in Midland. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1977. He spent the first few years of his career at GM Steering Gear before moving on to Dow Corning where he worked for 30 years before retiring.
Steve is known for being a people person and has never met a stranger. No matter where he went, he would always find someone to talk to. His love of others was exemplified in the way he lived his life. He had a passion for helping others, giving of his time and resources. His dad set an example of living life with an open hand and giving to those who had a need. Steve continued in this legacy and always strived to "pay it forward", never expecting anything in return. He faithfully served God in his church, Emmanuel Baptist, as a co-treasurer, Chairman of the properties committee, and running the sound system. You could also find him faithfully serving alongside his wife, doing many behind the scenes chores, never expecting recognition. Steve also loved being a part of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief of Michigan and worked with the flood recovery mud out, chainsaw, and feeding units. As he would often say, he wasn't an evangelist, but he let his walk talk louder than his talk talk. He loved Jesus, and it was important to him that his life reflected that. Steve will be remembered not only for his love of his Lord and his family, but also for his love of road trips and Nascar, his funny shenanigans, his problem solving skills, and his laugh.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gayle and Rea Rae Saxton, and brother, Bradley Saxton. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; and his two children, Angel Whitley (Tony) and Scott Saxton (Nichole); his grandchildren, Kristen Streeter (Mark), and Marshall Saxton.
A Celebration of Life service in honor of Steve will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church, located at 502 Cherry Street, Midland, Michigan, 48640. A luncheon will be provided following the service for close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials can be made in Steve's memory to the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief of Michigan. Gifts clearly designated to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief of Michigan can be sent to Baptist State Convention of Michigan, 41100 Plymouth Road, Bldg. 1, Suite 315, Plymouth, Michigan, 48170. God bless you, Steve. You are in the presence of Jesus now, with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. As Pastor David said today at the service, "Absent from the body, present with the Lord". Hope to see you again when the Lord calls me to Heaven. Meanwhile, we will all miss you down here; both me and all of the other church members at Emmanuel Baptist.
