AGE: 81 • Highland Park
Funeral Services for Rabbi Yakov R. Hilsenrath, 81, of Highland Park, NJ, who died Monday evening at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, will be held at 11AM today (Wednesday 02/19/14) in Congregation Ahavas Achim, 216 South First Avenue, Highland Park, NJ. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. Full obituary will appear at a later date. arrangements are by the Crabiel Parkwest Memorial Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.

Rabbi Hildebrand was responsible for me meeting my husband. He had a service with dinner for Jewish singles. He also officiated at our wedding, but was more than happy to read a letter from my cousin, Rabbi Sidney Greenberg. During the preparations, the Rabbi showed the utmost respect to my Dad who was not observant.He was also there for support when my brother-in-law and mother-in-law passed away. We will miss you.

Rabbi Hilsenrath was a powerhouse of Jewish learning, teaching and leadership. He was a man of principle and dedication. In the dictionary, where the words, "community leader" appear, the accompanying illustration is of Rabbi Hilsenrath. Yehi zikhro barukh.

Baruch dayan ha èmet.
Previously typed in hebrew but only ?? Question marks showed up.
A really great individual and Rabbi.
Remember him always , especially in 1992 when the 500 year anniversary of the spanish inquisition and the beautiful Sepharadic weekend festival and expo at the highland park temple.
Also ran into him on many occasions in The Shul in Bal Harbor Florida where he spent a couple of winter months.
You will be missed dear friend.

Rabbi Hilsenrath married us 1981 while on sabbatical in Jerusalem. I'll never forget how he translated the ceremony for my mother under the huppah. His and Devorah's presence made our marriage so much more meaningful.

My deepest sympathy on the death of a great spiritual leader. I will always with great fondness Rabbi Hilsenrath from the days at the Y in Highland Park while the new temple was being built. May God give his family strength and peace during this arduous time.

Rabbi Hilsenrath gently and charismatically brought me into Jewish practice, changing my life for good and leading me to meet my wife to be, Saura Bartner. May his soul continue to support the pillars of heaven and bring good to the earth.

A truly great man has passed. As a new convert to Judaism in 1981 I couldn't have prayed for a better spiritual leader to guide me in the ways of our religion. Rabbi Hilsenrath had a soft spot in his heart for my son, Joshua Hexer, and we will always remember the loving kindness he showed him while preparing Josh for his 1994 Bar Mitzvah (one of the last he performed the year of his retirement). I remember the service held in honor of Dvorah's (65th?) birthday. No greater gift than this could a mortal man bestow upon his wife. The legacy of this honorable man will live on forever.
