HICKORY - Elsa Carol Helm Wilkins, 76, of Hickory, was called home on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024.
A 1965 graduate of Lowes High School, Elsa married her high school sweetheart, Charles M. Wilkins, and they shared 55 wonderful years together. Elsa was a hairdresser for many years, and later worked over 20 years as a secretary for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, followed by several years with the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Elsa was known for her vast kindness. Whether offering a listening ear or a helping hand, she touched the lives of everyone around her. Her gentle spirit made the world a brighter place, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children, James (Jaye) Wilkins of Princeton, Todd Wilkins of Hickory, and Julie Wilkins of Hickory; two grandchildren, Noah Wilkins and Sy Wilkins; one sister, Nancy (Gary) Woods of Mayfield; and many lifelong friends.
Elsa is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles M. Wilkins; and her parents, Leo and Norma Helm.
A graveside service will be held at Liberty Cemetery in Hickory at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9. No visitation is scheduled. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
