Jennifer Ellen (Clay) Denton, 52, passed from this life into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025. She was employed at Jackson Purchase Energy in Paducah. She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister and much more, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jennifer was born in Paducah, on Nov. 15, 1972, to Dennis and Barbara Clay. She was raised in Golconda, Illinois, and graduated from Pope County High School in 1990. She married Joseph Denton on Nov 22, 1997. They have one son, Jesse. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1998 with a degree in Healthcare Management.
Jennifer loved people and loved the Lord. She became a follower of Christ around the age of 10 and was baptized at that time at First Baptist Church in Golconda, Illinois. She enjoyed reading, cooking, the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues, and the University of Illinois football, but her heart belonged to Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Denton, and son, Jesse, both of West Paducah; her mother, Barbara Clay of Golconda, Illinois; her siblings, Rev. Thomas Clay and wife Marla of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Dr. Michael Clay of Knoxville, Tennessee; brothers-in-law James Denton and wife Nancy (children Jessica, Robert, and Teller) and Jesse Ray Denton; sister-in-law, Judy Leasor; bonus sister Tracy Jones and husband Billy; and nieces and nephews Emily Clay Franks (Ethan), Aubrey Clay, Callie Clay, Carlie Clay, Chloe Clay, Collin Clay, Cole Clay, Emma Jane Clay, and Beth Timmons (Thomas); great-nieces Mila Grace Clay and Everly Sue Wright; great-nephew Zack Timmons (Ashley), great-nieces Lakyn Timmons and Eryka Timmons (Nathan Tubbs); great-great nephews Ashton Hester, Jackson Tubbs, and Jameson Tubbs; and great-great niece Adley Hester.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Clay; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Leasor; and sister-in-law, Janice Foglesong (Atlas).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Metropolis, Illinois, where she had been a member for many years or St. Jude's in Memphis, Tennessee.
Visitation will be at Lindsey Funeral Home, 226 N 4th St., Paducah, KY from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, with services to follow. Rev. Brett Laszlo of Lighthouse Assembly of God will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Larry Poyner, Collin Clay, Cole Clay, Billy Jones, Jim McAfee, and Robert Potterbaum. Interment will be at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, in West Paducah.
