Katherine Alexandria "Kathy" Scroggins

1960 - 2025

Katherine "Kathy" Alexandria Scroggins (née Hand) passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025. She was 65.

Kathy was born on July 9, 1960, to her proud parents, Owen and Billie Hand, in San Luis Obispo, California. In time, she moved and lived in Freedom, Watsonville, and Royal Oaks for most of her life. She attended Freedom Elementary, Rolling Hills Junior High, and graduated from Watsonville High School. After graduation, she forged her professional career in quality control across various sectors, including circuit boards and medical supplies.

Kathy was a wonderful, loving person with many qualities and interests. She volunteered at Watsonville High School, serving on the Athletic Boosters, the alumni association, robotics club, and on reunion planning committees for the class of '78. Everyone knew her to be a lover of giraffes. But most of all, she loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren, crafting, attending swimming lessons, and visiting Disneyland with them.

Kathy is survived by her husband Larry Scroggins; her son, Kenneth "Kenny" (Megan) Scroggins; her mother Billie Hand; her father and stepmother, Owen and Marcia Hand; her beloved grandchildren, Aidenia and Greyson Scroggins; her sister, Carol Hand-Turley; as well as nieces and nephews, Caitlyn and Heather Turley, Jane and Andrew Martinez, and Jackie Scroggins.

She also leaves behind countless long-time friends, a testament to her ability and intention of developing deep and lasting friendships throughout her lifetime. Kathy was known as a person that you could depend on. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Family and friends will join together for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 4:00pm, in the park at Moss Landing (near where the whale watching boats dock). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to: Watsonville High School Athletic Boosters/Swim Team – 250 Beach Street, Watsonville, CA. 95076 or the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (www.giraffeconservation.org).
