Donald Hale Obituary
Richmond, Ind. - Donald E. Hale, age 96, of Richmond, Indiana, finished his walk down the road of life on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Forest Park Health Campus.
Born September 10, 1922, in Richmond, Indiana, to Elbert Lee and Helen Hawkins Hale, Don was a life-long resident of Richmond. He was a 1941 graduate of Richmond High School and attended Earlham College before serving in World War II in 1945. Don was a CPL in the 95th Infantry Division. He was awarded a Bronze Star for laying communication wire under intense machine gun fire while in Gen. Patton's 3rd Army in Germany. After World War II he returned to Richmond to marry Phyllis Porter on June 25, 1949. Don returned to college and received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He worked at Natco for over 25 years and retired from Alcoa after over 19 years, where he was an application engineer.
Survivors include his two sons, Tim Hale of Eaton, Ohio, and Tom (Kelly) Hale of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Dustin Hale of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Chelsea (Brandon) Gulley and Cristen Hale, both of Indianapolis; nieces; nephews; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Porter Hale, who died December 8, 2002, and brothers, Gene, James, and Elbert Hale.
Visitation for Donald E. Hale will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. A public graveside service will follow at Earlham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.
