Dana Andrews Obituary

Dana Allen Andrews
Dana Allen Andrews, 66, of Royal Palm Beach, passed away January 17, 2021 in West Palm Beach following a heroic fight with Glioblastoma diagnosed in July 2019.
Born in Danvers, MA and raised in Watertown, MA, he graduated from Watertown High School in 1972 and attended Fitchburg State College for Woodworking Technology with the goal of becoming a woodshop teacher. In 1975, upon a trip to the US Virgin Island with friends, he fell in love with the adventurous lifestyle of sailing island to island, diving and found there was a need for marine woodworking. The trip enlightened Dana and he spent the better part of the 80's navigating the Greater and Lesser Antilles, and The Bahamas where he was building, restoring and refitting boats. In 1992, he landed in Palm Beach County where he ran a successful fitness gym, Waterfront Fitness. He quickly realized that the Florida Gold Coast was in desperate need for his woodworking expertise and passion. In 1993, he started American Yacht Restoration by Dana Andrews and was proud to grow the business to become the premier marine woodworking, custom cabinetry, furniture maker and finishing shop in Palm Beach County. His legacy will continue to live on in the superior work the American Yacht Restoration team performs for the finest vessels and residences.
Dana was well known for his adventurous spirit, but also his actions, open heart, and humor as it related to recovery. His fellowship to so many as a sponsor and to help others solve their common problem was legendary. Believing in the philosophy of Big Book Step Study, Dana truly came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore a person and he carried that message in his daily life to so many. He was a wonderful storyteller and the utmost optimist, who truly lived every day to its fullest. Dana inspired anyone he met to live without regret, take chances, have fun and be positive.
Dana leaves his daughter Alicia Luongo Fix and her husband Michael of Melrose, MA, his beloved grandchildren and joys of his life Lillian Fix and Michael Peter Fix; along with his lifetime friend Cheryl Luongo of East Longmeadow, MA; in addition his cherished companion Ann Delaporte, her son John and Lisa Joyce and their children Kaylee and John of Delray Beach, FL, her daughter Victoria Delaporte and Marc Thomas of Delray Beach, FL; brother Ralph Andrews of Chelmsford, MA, and beloved sisters Judith King of Northwood, NH and Patti McAlarney of Danvers, MA and sister-in-law Denise Andrews, and brother-in-law Joseph King and Kevin McAlarney. He also leaves his nine adored nieces and nephews along with the extended Andrews family. He was predeceased by his parents, Allen and Dorothy (Doyle) Andrews of Watertown, MA.
Dana will be laid to rest beside his beloved parents at the Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham, MA, the burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, his family encourages well-wishers to make donations in his memory to The Wilson House (https://www.wilsonhouse.org/donate-now/).
To Dana's dedicated group of friends, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of you who helped Dana by reaching out often, sending the power of prayer, keeping him laughing, making him feel loved and being alongside us on this difficult journey.
Our deepest thanks to doctors at University of Florida, Florida Cancer Specialists, along with the Home Health and Hospice teams for their tender care.

Dana's parents, Allen and Dorothy, were high school friends with my parents, John and Cathie Guiou. I have known Dana since we were toddlers. We have stayed in touch intermittently over the years, becoming more acquainted through the fellowship of recovery. He did so much, for so many. An example, of service and unselfishness.

I have known Dana for as long as I have been married to his brother, Ralph. Obviously, I don’t have childhood memories of Dana but I do have some great stories! I have always admired Dana’s love for life. He was always heading out for some new adventure and he always had lots of great stories to tell. A bit of a gift to gab, but that runs in the family! Dana and I always found time to laugh and poke fun at each other. He touched many different people in countless ways. Seven years ago, he met the love of his life, Ann. We were all so happy that Dana had finally met “the one”! They were perfect for each other. They had lots of great adventures together. We were so excited when they called us to tell us that he had popped the question to Ann and she said yes. Of course, we all now know how that story ends. He was taken from all of us much too soon. Dana, you will be missed.❤

I was honored to be friends with Dana in high school and several years after. He and I were best friends all through high school and we were inseparable. We were never without laughter, riding around in his Carmen Geer and tooting that funny barooga horn. Leaving school to have lunch at his house or mine, hanging out at the Cambridge Cemetery, or the Cambridge Commons. Going to the Traffic Concert at the Boston Garden and sneaking in because we didn't have enough money. Traffic was one of our favorite bands back in the day. Dana made it easy to be a teenager and sadly after his college years and the hustle and bustle of life, we drifted apart, living our lives but still managing a phone call here and there. I will never forget that smile. You live on in the hearts of many, everyone loved you Dana and we all know why..I will always remember our Coop days, Central Square jaunts, our graduation and the night we spent visiting all our friends that didn't go to the prom, the best lunches you used to make, beeping that crazy horn and watching people Jump, the Cape in winter and The Low Spark Of High Heel Boys. Rest in peace my friend, reach for the sky and may you rest in peace dear one.

A life well lived and gone too soon. Dana was not only my Nephew but also my God Son. I last spent time with him in Florida but often enough. He will be missed.

I was lucky enough to count Dana as a great friend during our college days.
His enthusiasm, contagious laugh, and kindness made it impossible to have a tough day if he was there. I recall a few days going for a drive in a little convertible “to look at the sky and see some green”.
All I can recall is laughing the afternoon away.
A true gift to all he met.

To my father-in-law, amazing grandfather to my children and friend of 26 years, I'll miss our time together. Your kindness, humor and humility are characteristics that I'll continue to instill in my children on your behalf. Your expertise in a variety of subjects was incredibly granular and helped me on countless undertakings. Your ability to tell a story of your adventures was legendary and I'll try my best to to be sure your grandchildren know all about how you conducted yourself and always stayed positive when the time is right.
And to that glorious, mahogany furnished, teak soles, walnut veneered and custom cabinetry M/Y sailboat in the sky that you now captain, may the four winds blow you safely home. Oceans of love - Mike
