David Bindeman Obituary

DAVID PAUL BINDEMAN Developer David P. Bindeman, 59, whose Washington, DC-based Landmark Realty company renovated a number of apartment buildings in the Nations Capital area, died November 17, 2003 at Washington Hospital Center. He had congestive heart failure. Mr. Bindeman was also former chairman of the National Bank of Commerce and its successor, Dominion Bank, and a director of Prince William Bank and the Washington Capitals hockey team. A fifth generation Washingtonian, Mr. Bindeman maintained a winter residence in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida for over twenty years. His primary residence was in Bethesda, Maryland. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and served in the Coast Guard Reserve. He began his career in 1967 as a salesman with B.F. Saul Co. and by 1969 was the youngest recipient of the Million Dollar Sales Award of the Washington Board of Realtors. He became president of Landmark, which was founded in 1971 to manage family real estate holdings. The firm was on the forefront of condominium conversions throughout the 1970's and 1980's and rental apartment development in recent years. Mr. Bindeman was president of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes and a director of the Washington Heart Foundation, Washington Hebrew Congregation and Woodmont Country Club. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Carol K. Bindeman; two children: son, Robert D. Bindeman, his successor as President of Landmark, and daughter, Deborah (Brian S.); and a brother, Stuart L. Bindeman (Martha K.) of Bethesda, Maryland. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes, 6010 Executive Blvd., Suite 800, Rockville, Maryland 20852.
