Family-Placed Obituary

DELMAR LEO LANDEN, Jr., PhD 'Dutch' 85, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Gerstenberg Center, West Palm Beach, FL. Born in Flint, MI, he had been a resident of Palm Beach Gardens for 20 years, coming from Bloomfield Hills, MI. Prior to retirement, he was the Director of Organizational Research and Development for General Motors Corporation. Most recently, he was the Chairman of Landen, Wells & Associates in Palm Beach Gardens, an organization development firm. Dr. Landen was currently writing books exploring the unique characteristics of women leaders, the beginnings of joint labor-management and Quality of Worklife initiatives in the auto industry, and the 12-step process in the renewal of organizations. Dr. Landen had a Doctorate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Ohio State University, was cofounder of the Michigan Quality of Work Life Council, was a recipient of the Professional Practice Award from the American Psychological Association, was an Aspen Scholar and was the recipient of numerous other awards in his profession. Survivors include his wife, Gayle Landen of Palm Beach Gardens; one daughter, Ann (Jim Powell) Landen of Bloomfield Hills, MI; three sons, Stephen (Lynne Schaefer) Landen of Ellicott City, MD, Douglas (Lisa Roznick) Landen of Marquette, MI and Keith Landen of Troy, MI; seven grandchildren, Kelsey Powell, Maxwell Powell, Samantha Landen, Matthew Landen, Katherine Powell, Benjamin Landen and Lily Landen; one sister, Susan Meneghel of Arden Hills, MN; sister-in-law, Freda Landen of Franklin, MI; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM, Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 400 Seabrook Road, Tequesta, FL 33469. The family requests contributions to the American Lung Association of Florida, 2701 North Australian Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407 in his memory. Dutch Landen was a powerful voice for union management cooperation and the quality of work life movement. He was a visionary, an inspiring speaker, and change agent at a time when the labor management community was in great need of new models. I learned a great deal from him.
