DOROTHY M. MITCHELL "Dot" October 14, 1928 - March 13, 2010 Dorothy M. "Dot" Mitchell, age 81, passed away on March 13, 2010. Dot leaves cherished memories to her loving husband of 60 years, Dr. Ross "Mitch" Mitchell D.V.M.; daughters, Janet Mitchell and Roslyn Hoecker; son-in-law, John Hoecker; son, Dr. Glen Mitchell and daughter-in-law, Dr. Lauren Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Cooper. Her loving grandchildren include, Taylor Cooper, Celeste and John Joseph "JJ" Hoecker and Annick and Elle Mitchell. Dot was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. She was an accomplished pianist, avid cook and gracious hostess. Dot was a pioneer in fighting for the rights of the mentally challenged. She worked tirelessly as an advocate for underprivileged and mentally challenged children through many organizations in Canada. She opened her home to many of her special "kids" during holidays and summer vacations, creating lasting, loving memories. Her commitment grew out of her love for her daughter, Janet. Dot was an extraordinarily devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She spent many years traveling from her beloved cottage on the shores of Lake Huron to her winter home in Juno Beach, FL to be near her children and grandchildren, whom she loved beyond words. She enjoyed anything that allowed her to be with her family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 13301 Ellison Wilson Road, Juno Beach with Pastor Frank Wagner officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to ARC of Palm Beach County www.arcpbc.org (561) 842-3213. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries
