Douglas SEAMAN Obituary

SEAMAN, Douglas

Age 91, long-time Milwaukee, WI native and entrepreneur, died peacefully on May 15, 2012 at his home in Hobe Sound, FL. After graduation from Milwaukee Country Day in 1939, he attended Yale University. Upon graduation in 1943, he entered the Navy during World War II where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant and earned two Bronze Stars for his participation in the invasions of Normandy and the South of France. After returning from World War II, he spent the next 35 years building Douglas Dynamics, Inc, which owned a wide variety of businesses, including Western Products of Milwaukee, WI and Fisher Engineering of Rockland, ME. During his lifetime, he served on the board of the Marshall and Isley (M&I) Bank, as well as numerous educational and charitable organizations, including the Layton Art Collection, the University School of Milwaukee, Miss Porter?s School, Farmington, CT, Museum Trustee Association, and Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; four children, Eleanor of New York City, NY, Douglas Jr. (Maureen) of Chicago, IL, Daphne Lerner (Jay) of Milwaukee, WI, Sarah Alijani (Todd) of Denver, CO; three brothers, Irving of Lake Forest, IL, Richard of Milwaukee, WI, David of Cross River, NY; and nine grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Martin County, 11500 S.E. Lares Avenue, Hobe Sound, FL 33455 or the Anne Douglas Seaman Fund c/o Children?s Hospital of Wisconsin, 9000 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53226. A memorial service will be held on November 20, 2012 at 4:00 PM at Christ Memorial Chapel, Hobe Sound, FL.
