Howard Hill Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

DR. HOWARD E. HILL Dr. Howard E. Hill lost his courageous fight against cancer on December 24, 2007 at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 75. He was familiarly known as ‘'Doc'' Hill to many of those whose lives he touched over the years. He was born in Miami, Florida to W.P. & Doris Hill. When Howard was four, the family relocated to the small agricultural and cattle town of Belle Glade when his father managed the Hector Supply Company. Dr. Hill graduated from Belle Glade High School in 1950. He went on to obtain his undergraduate from the University of Florida and completed his DVM at Auburn University. In 1956 Dr. Hill began practicing at Everglades Animal Hospital. He was a founding board member of Glades Day High School and a member of the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida. His roots were deep in the rich soil of Belle Glade. He widened the scope of his interests to include sugar cane farming and later to property development, rentals and home construction. He built his home in West Palm Beach but continued to maintain his business interests and many friendships in Belle Glade. Dr. Hill is survived by a brother William P. Hill, of Belle Glade and a sister Betty Kidder of Riviera Beach. Daughters Beverly Hill of Black Mtn., N.C., Patricia Norman of Labelle, Suzanne Campbell of Stuart, son Edward Hill of Atlanta and step-sons Robert Robinson and Daniel Robinson both of Palm Beach. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren (”Rosie”, “Bumper”, “BoBo'', “Sarah Lizard”, “Manda Rudy”, KJ, “Kimberly”, “Katie Bell”, Madison, Morgan, Lauren, Chase) and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special friend Penelope Blades. There will be a Memorial Service at Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center PBCC, 1977 College Drive, Belle Glade, (561) 993-1160 on Saturday, January 5th at 10:00 am. There will also be a family and church service on Sunday, January 6th 10:00 am at Unity in the Pines 6073 Summit Blvd. WPB. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of PB County. A truely wonderful and lively man was "Uncle Howard". While growing up in Belle Glade, he was one of our extended fathers. Many memories will continue in my heart. My sympathy goes out to the entire Hill family, especially Aunt Betty, Sue Hill Kidder, Beverly, Patty, Susie, Eddie, John, and Janis and their families. I remember being able to help him work at the Animal Hospital. What a trill to have been able to be there to watch and learn. I will miss him terribly, but will see him again in heaven sitting with the Lord. With love from one of his "extra kids".

Doc Hill was a being whom once encountered, left a permanent and wonderfully inspiring and powerful impression on all who had the grace to be with him. His quiet dignity, loving presence, incredibly generous spirit and unassuming yet commanding wisdom are gifts that I will always cherish. Thank you Doc.
You are loved and missed.

Doc Hill made it a point to bring vegetables & fruits every Sunday to church as well as his warm face and person. He was a magnificent figure for Unity of the Pines. May he rest in Peace. Blessings.

To try to describe Doc in a short entry would be practically impossible. Doc meant so much to so many people. He was there with help when needed whether for an individual or for his church. I know he certainly helped me on more than on occasion with excellent advice. Every time I sing something from "My Fair Lady" (Doc's favorite show), I will see Doc sitting there, listening intently, with a tear in his eye. The show had great meaning for him, but I never knew why and never asked. I'll miss you, Doc. We,all, will.

Rest in peace, my dear friend, until we meet again.

Doc Hill served for many years at Unity In The Pines as a member of the Board of Directors, as a leader, as an example of loving kindness and generosity. I will miss his smile and Sunday morning hugs.

Doc Hill was a mainstay of our church, who made a profound difference in that church (Unity in the Pines), and who gave of himself as well as financially for the church's great benefit. His smiling face and warm hugs made every Sunday morning special. We miss him so much!

To Beverly, Patty, Susie, Eddie, John, Janis and families. I am so sorry for your loss. About 35 years ago, Howard told me to call him if I ever got into trouble, financially or otherwise. I never did, but it was a comfort knowing he would help if I really needed it. I always respected and loved him even though I haven't seen him in years. He will be missed.

May you find comfort in knowing your father, grandfather and great-grandfather helped make a difference in the lives of many people in the Glades. Uncle Howard has left a legacy for you to follow, and his memory will remain a part of us forever.

With all my love, Jeanie
