I was 19 years old when went to work for Jim in 1973 at Pratt & Whitney. He was a mentor to me, and I learned so much about business, cars, boats, and life from him. Truly, a gifted leader, orator, author, artist, and human being. Thank you Mr Grimes, may you rest in peace.

I want to wish Hazel, Patty, Seth and the entire grimes family my heartfelt condolences! I am so sorry for your loss but I hope Jim is finally of mind and body in heaven or whatever after life may exist giving his knowledge to anyone that will listen. He has wonderful stories...
The last holiday I spent with Jim was Thanksgiving prior to him and Hazel entering assisted living. I have to say that he impressed me as he spoke to the entire family present about his decision to prepare for his and Hazels golden years. I found Jim to be a family man that commanded your attention at every turn in life...his children probably could attest to that.
I love the picture that Jim is watching the girls at what appears to be a wedding! He looks like a daddy watching his kids intently...

Our deepest condolences to Hazel, Patty, Seth and the rest of the family from Jim's friends in Backroom Writers--we enjoyed his historical research and writings through the years until he decided he could no longer keep at it. One (Martin Fleming) recalls his challenging and amusing report about your family's attempts to escape the 2004-05 hurricane, getting stuck on the road, finally returning to Jupiter Farms to wait it out! I was personally helped by his & Hazel's generosity--loaning me several car seats and toys when my grandchildren visited me here the first few times. There are a half dozen of us still involved in the writers' group, and have his massive book on our shelves! Be strong in your memories of this great guy! You are in our hearts & prayers (Lois Blackburn, Michael Wilber, Lee Batterman, Kelley Allen, Martin Fleming--Jim drew the cover picture for his novel; Kathy Barrett, Jim Murphy.)

I have known the Grimes family for so long. My heart Is breaking for all of you at this time.
I remember most Jim's quick wit! I had to stay on my toe's and pay attention as I never knew when the zinger would come. But for me, the clue was the twinkle in his eye and a slight smile on his face. As I read through all the stories I can't help but feel your dad was a great teacher as well, he had such a vast knowledge about so many things.
Thank you Jim, because of you and Hazel, I have been blessed with calling Patty my best friend for the past 36 years.
You will be missed. Godspeed to the Suwannee River.

With love. Socorro.

There is so much that I could say as you were a man of many talents and interests. With all your ideas and family projects you gave us the knowledge and skills to become independent and resourceful adults. Each of us with our own unique interests and talents.
Thank you too for raising your 5 wonderful children. My awesome big brother and three beautiful sisters. I love them all so very much.
You will forever be remembered by your children and grandchildren.
I pray your soul has found a place of peace and joy. With much love, Jill

Unc,
Thanks for the memories! I appreciate you selling me your Dodge Challenger. I drove all the way from the UP to pick up my new ride for my year of living in Tennessee, and then the move to LA. May your final resting place on the Suwannee be a peaceful one.
