I don't think there was a better place to play tennis in the early 1990s than in Doc Horne's complex. My sister and I became better players and better people through Doc and the community. I lost many matches there but I won a lot more in life through our lessons. I will always be grateful.

I extend my condolences to the family of Jimmie Horne, Sr. He was a great inspiration to me, and he taught me much about tennis. Not only did he expose area children to tennis, but he gave lessons to me and my fellow seniors at Cypress Lakes. I will always remember two of his comments: "Tennis is a gentleman's game." and "In tennis, your movements must be beautiful."
I and my friends will truly miss him.

My family and I are saddened to hear of the passing of Mr.Horne. My personal memories of Mr.Horne go back to Roosevelt High School in the 1950's and also of his visits to the Timmons household on 34th street in Riviera Beach. The Mr.Horne I will remember was well respected and always showed respect for others. To the Horne family you are in our hearts and prayers.

I had the privilege to have Mr. Horne as my carpentry teacher at North Tech. 1974-75. He was not only instrumental in our teachings. But character building as well. Tennis was his well known passion.
The success of the Williams sisters is another living testament to the man.

To the family of Jimmy "Doc" Horne, Sr.
Earth has no sorrows that Heaven can not heal. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Mr. Horne was a great figure in my life as a teen-ager in High school. He taught my group which were known as "The Shoppets". We made jewelrey boxes, small shelves for ornaments, etc. Mr. Horne was very nice to us and very witty.
God be with you,
Phyllis Menendez-Duncombe

Mr. Jimmie "Doc" Horne Sr. was my FIRST tennis teacher that I ever had a lesson from. Always the disciplinary instructor teaching you manners along the way, and for that I'm grateful to say that he was an inspiration to me. If you ever played tennis at Gaines Park, then should you remember anyone trying to use the restroom or water fountain had to do it with style and class. In other words he would not allow you to come near the facility loud and unruly. We have lost a great instructor that had so much knowledge and wisdom. God bless the Horne Family and I will forever be glad to say he taught me first.

My deepest sympathy goes out to my classmate (Bo) on the loss of his father. I have many great memories of Mr. Horne. He was one of many super teachers we had at Roosevelt. Our lives are richer for having known him. Thanks, Mr. Horne, for everything you did for us.
Jimmie, may God be with you during this sad hour.
