Joan Willmott Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Joan Margaret Stevens Willmott Joan Margaret Stevens Willmott, 80, of West Palm Beach, FL, died on August 14, 2012. As an artist and sculptor, she instinctively brought beauty to the attention of friends and family, most notably in the field of horticulture. She served 50 years in the Garden Club of Palm Beach, holding many offices. Through the Garden club, she helped design and plant the beautiful Four Arts Garden, where many of her plantings still exist. She contributed, through photography and editing, the member written book "Gardens by the Sea", which was dedicated to her. She was also Investment Adviser for The Crippled Children's Society (RCCA) and was heavily involved with the Pine Jog Preservation Group. In addition, she was involved with Pan's Garden/Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. Joan was President of the International Women's Fishing Association, and along the way she found the man of her dreams and was married for 35 years to John West Willmott, with whom she had many exciting adventures. Joan excelled at Gourmet cooking, and won many awards for flower arranging. She loved to travel, from the rain forests of Cozumel to the Moors of Maine, settled in Vermont, where she maintained two large gardens. Her Florida residence also received much love and attention. As a doctor's daughter, she was sensible, as a wife and mother, she was loving and caring, and as a woman, she was vibrant, fun loving, and just a little bit daring. She is survived by husband John West Willmott, her daughter Laura, grandson John, and siblings Scott, John, and Barbara, and numerous nieces and nephews. We will all miss her and love her. A memorial event will be held in September at the Four Arts Garden in Palm Beach. Call 203-770-5813 for information. Contributions would be welcome to the Animal Rescue League of West Palm Beach or the Crippled Children's Society. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries
