John Gibson Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

JOHN MICHAEL GIBSON "Gibby" John Michael Gibson was born on November 19, 1954 and left us on March 21, 2010. He was pre-deceased by his father, James H. "Jimmy" and his brother, James A. Gibson. John leaves behind two wonderful sons, Jim 33 and John Michael 26. He is survived by his mother, Bobbie-Ann; brother, Michael his wife, Kathy and their children, Daniella and Michael James; his sister, Pamela Hendrix; her husband, Terry and their children, Adam and Shaina; his sister, Paula O'Connor her husband, Sean and their daughter, Shannon; his great-niece, Bella and his beloved granddaughter, Kylie Marie. John cherished time with his family. John was born and raised on Martha's Vineyard. After graduating from Martha's Vineyard Regional High School he joined the Marine Corps and after serving eight years he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He was always proud to be a Marine. One of his favorite quotes was "only two defining forces ever offered to die for you; Jesus Christ and the American SoldierÉone died for your soul, one died for your freedom". Before John moved to Florida in 2002 he was very involved in the youth hockey program. He was a hockey coach for many years and loved every minute of it. He was a member of the board of directors at the Martha's Vineyard arena and was also a hockey referee for many years. He loved the arena just like his Dad did. The Martha's Vineyard Harley riders sent him off in style when he left the island to move to Florida. He quickly became a beloved member of the "Enforcers" Motorcycle Club. He held the rank of Sergeant at Arms and was very proud of that. John had a great passion and love of motorcycles. He often said that his love of the Harley Davidson was "not a hobby but a lifestyle". John was taken from us doing what he enjoyed most. He died living his dream with the wind at his back. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 6:00 PM followed by a memorial service and a celebration of life at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please send donations in John's memory to The John Gibson Memorial Fund c/o Northern Trust, 11301 US Highway 1 North Palm Beach, FL 33408 or to the MV Arena Endowment Fund, PO Box 2062, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. John and I knew each other through a business relationship. I always found John to be tough but fair. He was well respected by all of the people that worked under his direction. I never knew he was a Marine, but that explains quite alot. Please accept our sincere condolences and prayers as you move through this period of loss.

I am so very shocked and sorry to hear of John's passing at a very early age. He was taken way too soon and I know he will leave a big void in his family's lives. God Bless him....he was such a nice guy.

With Deepest Sympathy to the whole family, Mary Good

To the Family and Enforcers Brothers;
My heart aches at the lost of a beloved friend. I am so blessed and grateful God placed him in my life as a friend. I can't imagine him not being there. I truly can't fathom the grief and sense of loss you feel at this time. I am willing to do anything needed to help if I can. Please know how much Gibby was and still is loved, by so many. He touched a lot of lives in this world. I for one of many will miss him greatly. Someone very special to me has been taken away; the incredible void is heartbreaking. I'm am proud to have had the luxury of calling him friend.
With great love and sadness,
Teresa "Squeekers" Stovall
