McAULIFFE, Jr., John E.

John E. McAuliffe, Jr., a prominent Palm Beach resident and heir to Triangle Conduit & Cable Co., Inc., of which he served as Secretary and Treasurer, died on April 20, 2014. He was 85. Mr. McAuliffe was the son of John E. McAuliffe, who founded Triangle in 1916, and Eloise McAuliffe. A dapper and elegant gentleman who cared about the fate of others, and always asked questions to enrich his mind, Mr. McAuliffe was born September 1, 1928. Since his parents had a home on the north end of Palm Beach, he spent a great deal of time in Palm Beach developing a love for golf and outdoor sports. Mr. McAuliffe attended Palm Beach Day School, Blair Academy and Lawrenceville School, both in New Jersey, and New York Military Academy before enrolling in the University of Miami at Coral Gables. His affiliations included Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, NJ, and The Everglades Club in Palm Beach. He was also a Junior member of Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach. His lifelong hobby remained the game of golf. He had five holes in one, 25 years playing in the Western Open in Chicago, IL, and was Club Champion of The Everglades Club in 1950. Mr. McAuliffe is survived by his wife, Helen Robertson McAuliffe; six children, John E. McAuliffe III, Linda Joy, Mary Newman, Eloise Carol, Victoria Evans and Dawn Spencer; ten grandchildren, Robert Newman, Elliot Newman, John E. McAuliffe IV, Stirling McAuliffe, Austin McAuliffe, Chelsea McAuliffe, Margot Sattel, Lucas Sattel, Carrie Kamler and Elizabeth Vance; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Marks and Jackson Marks; and his sister, Martha Guzman. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, May 9, at Bethesda-By-The-Sea Church in Palm Beach.
