Joseph Bass Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Dr. JOSEPH C. BASS Dr. Joseph C. Bass of Jupiter, FL passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2009 after a brief illness. The son of Isaac and Anna Bass, Joe was born on May 28, 1940 in Claremont, NH. By his side were his devoted wife, Barbara of almost 42 years, along with his daughters, Elisa and Robyn. He is survived by sons-in-law, David and Brad; his four treasured grandsons, Jared, Ryan, Jason and Michael and his sister, Barbara Sacks as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He and the former Barbara Brandstatter were high school sweethearts and for 51 years he referred to her as the only love of his life. In 1955, after retiring from his Obstetric and Gynecologic practice, Joe and Barbara relocated to Jupiter. Joe received his B.A. from Columbia College in 1962 and his M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1966. He loved delivering babies and practicing medicine as a solo practitioner, first in Framingham, MA until 1986 and then at Baptist Hospital and South Miami Hospital, FL. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and playing golf at Admirals Cove and at his summer home in Quechee, VT. He had a gentle nature, a kind heart and spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a doting husband, a caring father and a fantastic "papa" to his grandsons as well as a sincere friend. His positive outlook on life ad generous heart will be dearly missed by all. A private family gathering was held at his home. An additional service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life. Seeing Joe after nearly 50 years after graduation - the night Bill, Tom and I met and dined with you both was special. For Joe was Joe - especially that SMILE the smile which never changed. The smile that made you wonder what was going on in his mind. Had he just eaten the canary or was something impish going on in his mind and what would the outcome be. His low key manner was relaxing. Out of us guys - Joe was the sensible one - the one with a goal - the one who knew life was serious. I never heard him speak an unkind word of anyone and in conversation - he listened with enthusiasm. I can sincerely say that I like Joseph Bass - because as a person and as a man - he was special.

Barbara,
Joe was our Santa Claus, always greeting Martha and I with a smile, a joke and a witty observation. We will miss him dearly. God Bless Joe and you.

Barbara, I was very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He was a wonderful guy--easy to be with, humble and always kind and caring.
The love, mutual admiration and respect that was the hallmark of your more than 45 year relationship will hopefully sustain you as you go forward and be happy as Joe would want for you.
I remember that Joe always said that you were the brains and he just the 'professional worker'. He always defered to you and his deep love and admiration for you was evident to me at every meeting.
Joe will be missed by all that new him , The world is a better place because Joe Bass lived.

My deepest sympathy to his great family. He was a super guy and a very kind person. I took he & Les Frankel to play PGA golf a few years ago & we had a great time. May the memories of Joe bring you comfort.
