Lillian Padgett Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

LILLIAN NAOMI PADGETT Age 100, of Pahokee died Tuesday October 2, 2007 in Pahokee. Lillian was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on June 30, 1907. Her parents were Calvin and Rhoda Shive. She had three sisters and two brothers, Miriam, Ruth, Gerry, Paul and Wesley. As a 14 year old in 1921 she came to Pahokee with her family, settled down and became one of the Glades' first pioneer families. Lillian was the first of two people to graduate from high school in the Glades area. Lillian was married to Duncan Padgett on April 25, 1926 and had sons Donald and Calvin and daughter Joy. After all the children were grown and gone, she went to work and became the director of the Chamber of Commerce for eight years until she retired. When Lillian was 68 years old and Duncan was 70 they both did an unusual but exciting thing. They legally adopted a 12 year old boy by the name of Thomas. Now Lillian had four children, Donald, Calvin, Joy and Thomas. She had 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. In addition to being a fantastic mother, super mother-in-law and the most wonderful grandmother, Lillian was a true friend to everyone who has ever known her. Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Pahokee Saturday October 6, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Rev. David Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Port Mayaca Cemetery. My deepest sympathy goes to you Tom and your family. I will always have fun memories playing at your house with my brother, Ronny and I when we were little. I remember how your house smelt like cookies, and to this day when I smell that certain smell, I think of your mom.
My family is no longer in Florida or we would have come for a visit. Please accept our prayers for your loss. She will be greatly missed, but we know she is with "Uncle Duncan" now. All our love, Alice York-Maturana and Family

Thomas,

We were deeply sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I know you will miss her terribly. We do know that she has "graduated" and now is wearing her crown and robe!

Your mom was always such a kind woman and it was a blessing to know her. She never let growing older bother her! I remember her saying she had climbed a tree to play with the kids.

You certainly have our sympathy. May we all grow old gracefully and love the Lord the way that she did.
