Maurice Rosenstock Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

MAURICE ROSENSTOCK Of Boynton Beach, FL and formerly of Ellenville, New York. The son of the late Charlotte Albert and Harry Rosenstock, he grew up in Ellenville, NY graduating from Ellenville High School, Union College and then New York Law School. He was the president of H. Rosenstock & Sons and Riverside Industries, manufacturers of childrens clothing, and a judge in Ulster County and the town of Wawarsing in NY. He ran for the NY State Assembly in 1976, was president of the local B'nai Brith chapter, chairman of the Republican Party, was a Master of Masonic Lodge 582, and he served as a mediator for juvenile offenders for many years. After moving to Florida he worked for the Palm Beach County Commission until 2002, and was always actively involved in his community and politics. He was a former president of the Hunters Run Golf & Racquet Club, chairman of the Boynton Beach Planning and Zoning Board, a director of the American Jewish Committee and a member of the Palm Beach Republican Executive Committee . He was a delegate to the National Republican convention in 2000 . Rosenstock was a veteran of World War II and served in both the European and Pacific theatres. He was on a ship bound for the Phillipines when the war ended, but his unit was declared essential and went on to upper Luzon to capture the Japanese soldiers who refused to give up. He was an avid skier and taught his four daughters Ellen (John) Morehouse of Ardsley, NY, Joan Rosenstock (the late Neil Callahan) of Seattle, WA, Lynndsy (Ed) Liddle, of Novato, CA, and, Nancy (T. J.) Rhine, of Denver, CO how to ski and love the sport. He is also survived by his wife of 60 years, Natalie Mann whom he met in Albany, NY. He has seven grandchildren, Jeff and Leigh Morehouse, Abby and Alex Callahan, Zach and Lauren Liddle, and Casey Rhine. Unfortunately, Maurice suffered a catastrophic cerebral hemorraghe and stroke in 2002 and was unable to spend his last years in the same vital way he lived his first 79 years. Always active, well dressed, and in charge, he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 10:45 AM on Thursday August 13 at Gutterman-Warheit Memorial Chapel 7240 Federal Highway in Boca Raton. I knew Maurice over many years in local politics, and unfortunately I was unable to have his advice and counsel as a new county commissioner. He was a leader in the community and will certainly be missed.
