Mileva Susnar Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

MILEVA SUSNAR Mileva Susnar passed away peacefully on December 31, 2010, in the company of her beloved son, Mitch. Mileva was born October 10, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI to parents Nevena and Blogoja Borkovich. As a young woman, she was active in the Serbian community, and particularly enjoyed her all female Serbian band, "The Kosovo Girls." While playing at a function, she caught the eye of Mero Susnar, a member of an all male Serbian orchestra. They soon married, settled in Brookfield, WI and had three children, Lana, Lisa and Mitch. A graduate of the Layton School of Art, Mileva was an extremely accomplished artist and worked as the only female on a team of commercial artists at the firm of Klau Van Peterson, achieving great recognition for her outstanding work. Mileva moved with her husband and children to Florida where they were residents of Palm Beach for many years. In 1977, they moved to Montecito, CA where they spent many years with family and grandchildren. Mileva was a member of the Lobero Associates and Music Academy of the West. Mileva and Mero then made their home in Rancho Mirage, CA. She was committed to her family and friends and greatly touched many lives with her kind and giving spirit, as well as her remarkable sense of style. Mileva is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Mero. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Monafo; her son, Mitch Susnar; daughters, Lana Marme-Phillips and Lisa Susnar-Geesey; grandchildren, Kendall, Kyle, Mero, Mero, Leila and Alex, and great-grandson, Mateo. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. A private memorial will be held by her family. Today Jan 7th is Serbian Xmas and the joy was taken out when I read about the passing of Mileva Susnar. Always Leila to me. What a great lady! Talented, friendly and kind. The Borkovich family and my family (Savatovich) were friends as were the Susnar's. Brother-in-law Steve Susnar was one of my closest friends. I will never forget the "Kosovo Girls" rendition of Pistol Packing Mama in Serbian. A few years ago I went to their home at Morningside for dinner. I would see Mero at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Palm Desert, CA. We were planning on writing some articles about Serbian people who were successful in life and business, Mero being one of them, that never happened. To the Susnar family "hristos se rodi"
