Mimi Jordan Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

MIMI TREPEL JORDAN A pioneer in the recording industry, Mimi died on September 18, 2006 after a short illness, at the age of 98. She will be greatly missed by her brother, Richard Trepel, her nephews, Michael Rubenstein, Jeffrey Trepel, Lawrence Trepel and Scott Trepel, by her niece, Jane Neckers, and by their families including her grandnieces Holly Rubenstein, Katharine Neckers and Natasha Trepel, and by the family of Genevieve Lake-Smith. She was the cherished sister of Shirley Badain and Doris Leberfeld, and the beloved wife of Murray Jordan. Throughout her life Mimi found ways to express her profound love of music. Born in Brooklyn in 1908, Mimi began her working career as a drama coach and, at an early age, began working in radio. She was, for a number of years, a broadcast announcer for classical music radio programming in New York City. She left broadcasting to work at London Records, where she rose to become a corporate officer running London's copyright, publishing and foreign distribution divisions. She worked with artists from Joan Sutherland to the Rolling Stones. At a time when there were few women in positions of responsibility in the recording business, Mimi represented the company around the world, including in Japan and at the annual recording industry meeting in Cannes. She was a mentor and an inspiration, not only during her career, but after she retired, when she co-wrote and performed in classical music entertainments in Manhattan, and when, at the age of 78, she was graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University. Mimi never lost her great sense of style or her keen intellect. We will cherish our memories of an extraordinary woman. Family and friends will gather at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel, 7205 W. Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, FL, at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 22, 2006. On September 24, 2006 there will be a graveside service in New York.
