Morris Berman Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

MORRIS BERMAN "Pep" Passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 with his family at his side in Tucson, AZ. Morris was born July 15, 1917 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He graduated from G.A.R. High School. He served heroically in World Word II as a flight surgeon's assistant in the Army Air Corps in the European and African Theatres. After his military service, he returned to his home in Wilkes-Barre and spent most of his adult life in retail sales for the J. S. Raub Shoe Corporation. He was one of the best known merchants on Wilkes-Barre's Main Street. As a sideline, he worked with his father, Nate Berman in the house painting and wall-paper hanging business, a craft that he continued well into his retirement from retail sales. Throughout his life he remained active in sports as a participant, coach and umpire. He enjoyed walking, swimming and riding a bike late into his 80s. He is probably best known for his devotion to friends and family and for his commitment to his synagogues in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Lake Worth, FL and most recently Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Berman of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Sandra Kam (Jeff) of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Joan Berman of Tucson, AZ; son, Scott Berman, MD (Christi) of Tucson, AZ and granddaughters, Samantha Kam of Baltimore, MD and Alex Berman of Tucson, AZ. Graveside services were held Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 4:00 PM at Congregation Bet Shalom Section of East Lawn Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Rabbi Philip "Billy" Lewkowicz officiating. God bless you Morris, I remember my parents rented from Nate Berman and his wife on N. Hancock ST in the heights section of Wilkes-Barre. Nate Berman would take me to carry the paint cans and be a helper(?) I was six, then he would take me to Woodlawn dairy for "the best ice cream in the word". Carl Hill
