Nellie Cordone Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

NELLIE V. CORDONE Nellie V. Cordone, age 87, currently of Lake Worth, FL and formerly of Southport, CT passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007. Nellie was a longtime member of the Southport Congregational Church, where she was involved with the Women's Guild and Carousel groups. She also enjoyed crafting and sewing, and was a bookkeeper for many years at Pepperidge Farms. Nellie will always be remembered for making friends easily. She was known for her caring nature and the love she gave to all who knew her. Nellie loved music and remembered all the words to the "oldies" - she was quite the entertainer during her stay in the re-hab hospital. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sandra McClain and her husband, Michael of Lake Worth, FL; and her loving son, James Cordone and his wife, JoAnn of Milford, CT. She will also be missed by her beloved grandchildren, Tammy and Christopher Cordone of Milford, CT; and sister-in-law Elsie Cherry of Cape Cod, MA, several nieces and nephews and cherished friends. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the SHAUGHNESSEY-BANKS FUNERAL HOME, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield with Rev. Paul Whitmore officiating. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nellie's memory to: The Hospice of Palm Beach County at 5300 East Ave. West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Nellie will always be remembered as a warm and caring person. Whenever I was invited to stay for dinner she would make delicious meals and I would especially enjoy the desserts she would buy from Pepperidge Farms, like the cakes or the bags of Godiva chocolates. She was ready to lend an "ear" if you needed to talk things out too. She would always have something nice to say and had an optimistic attitude. She loved keeping house and worked hard at it. She will be lovingly remembered for her many kindnesses to me and others.

I would like to express my deepest sympahty in the passing of your mother. I worked with Nellie at Pepperidge Farm in the seventies and came to know her as one of the most caring, giving people I have known in my life. I also spent some time with Nellie later in her life when she would come to Fairfield to visit with her friend Mary Biehn. Mary would bring Nellie to any event that was being held by the Southport Woman's Club and we would chat and reminisce and laugh. We always laughed when Nellie was among us. I will miss her.
