Paul ANASTASIO Obituary

ANASTASIO, Paul Joseph
Paul Anastasio, soldier, builder, entrepreneur, died Friday evening, January 6, 2017 in Jupiter, FL. He was 95. Born in Camden, NJ to parents Pasquale and Edel and raised during the Great Depression, he learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice. He served our country as an air gunner in the US Navy in World War II on the Pacific Front. On returning from the War he married the love of his life, Ann, who he would be with for nearly 70 years before she passed one year ago. A builder who went on to own his own construction company and would later found jewelry and restaurant businesses. He had an unmatched zeal for life and would conquer the slopes of the Italian Alps as he would the craps tables of Las Vegas. He loved golf, gardening, a good cigar and was perhaps one of the best chefs of his age. Paul was a great man, direct, respected, and loved. To borrow from Sinatra, whose songs he would often sing, he did it his way. He is survived by his children Paul Jr. and Debbi; sisters Lucille and Nancy; and grandsons Joseph, Paul III, and Gregory as well as generations of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann; and his siblings, Michael, Ernest, Pasquale, Dominic, and Yolanda. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 13, from 8:30AM to 10:00AM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union, NJ 07083. A service will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 10:00AM with interment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ.

Dearest and most long-standing and beloved friend of our family's for upwards of six decades, you were a man of many talents and, at the end of the day, a cherished family man who lived and loved life to the fullest for the greater part of a century. I will never forget our many visits over the years -- your exquisite home cooking wafting through the house, black-and-white photographs of trips to Vegas with my grandparents in the old days, your sense of humor and your lifetime of stories. We were fortunate that you were a part of our lives, and you will be missed by all of us.

The world will truly miss you Popie. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from when my parents would let me pack my suitcase and go stay with you and grandma for the weekend. You were certainly one of a kind.I loved how you would cook me 3 square meals a day and would always ask me to eat, just one more meatball, and they were definitely the best damn meatballs.I loved when you would take me for a walk through your garden to show me just how tall your tomato plants had grown, you were so proud, and I would listen to you wide-eyed and amazed.I always looked up to you with such pride.I am so incredibly lucky to have you as my grandfather for 27 years. As I have grown up, I have realized how much I have valued the time we had together. Now you are finally at peace, reunited in love with Grandma.
