Richard LOPEZ Obituary
(December 4, 1938 - July 18, 2016) Richard Elmo Lopez, 77, of West Palm Beach, FL passed away July 18, 2016. Richard was born in New Smyrna Beach, FL on December 4, 1938 to Elmo Lopez and Agnes Fowler. He attended New Smyrna Beach High School and played baseball at the University of Florida. After Richard's career with the Florida Highway Patrol, he worked as a private investigator and an educator at Florida Atlantic University. He enjoyed running, playing golf and fishing. Richard was also a proud member of the West Palm Beach Kiwanis Club and served as lieutenant governor and president. Richard is survived by his sister Margie Osborn, his daughter Angela Gordon, his son Burton Lopez, and his grandchildren Aaron and Nikole Gordon and was predeceased by his wife Penelope Lopez. Memorial Services will be held 2:00PM July 31, 2016 at Lourdes Noreen McKeen, 315 South Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.

Richard was husband to my first cousin, Penelope (Penny) Adams Winfree Lopez, who preceded him in death. I wish I could have met him but am now sending condolences instead.
Penny's mother was Jimmie Dink Adams Winfree, the younger sister of my mother, Mamie Ester Adams Mandot.
My sympathy goes out to the remaining Lopez family members.

Richard and I were teammates on the NSBHS football, basketball and baseball teams throughout our HS career. I don't recall a more fierce competitor during those golden years. The two of us also played semi-pro baseball the summer after our senior year of HS. Rest in Peace my friend and teammate.

I knew Richard when he was a member and officer in the West Palm Beach Kiwanis. He was very much respected by all of us for his leadership and service. My condolences to the family.
