Robert BARUS Obituary

BARUS, Robert "Biff" Robert "Biff" "Doc" Barus, 58, of Lake Worth, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Monday June 12, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. "Biff" was born in Lake Worth, FL on March 7, 1959 and was the adopted son of loving parents Charles E. Barus and Jean Martin Barus. He attended Lake Worth Jr. and Sr. High Schools where he was an accomplished diver and baseball player. He then attended and graduated from the Di Bacco Private School in 1977. After high school he followed in his father's footsteps, working construction as a carpenter before attending Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, GA. In June 1988 he graduated and became "Dr. Robert Barus". He worked in Lake Worth before moving to Panama City, FL to open his own practice. "Doc" worked and played hard while in Panama City for close to 20 years making many life long friends. While there, he joined the Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) National Tour where he had his own team and sponsor boat named "The Predator" that did very well. Always chasing his dreams, in 2008 he sold his practice and got his Merchant Marine Captains License. After returning to Lake Worth, he was hired to captain a private yacht from Palm Beach to Rhode Island for the season. For the last several years, while continuing to live life to the fullest, he also helped in the care of his ailing parents until their passing. Less than 2 months after Jean's passing, Biff was diagnosed with cancer and fought with everything he had all the way to the end. Biff will be remembered as an avid fisherman, participating in many fishing tournaments both locally and in Panama City. While home in Lake Worth he joined team "Skin Deep" to win the SKA National Championship in 2010. Biff always lived life on his terms, his dog Abbey was usually by his side. He loved traveling, baseball, golf, skiing, diving and fishing. Most of all, he loved having good times with good friends. He was predeceased by his beloved father, Charles in January, 2013 and mother Jean in January, 2017. He is survived by brother Charles "Chip" Barus, fiancee Cynthia Bird-Cedrone, brother Arthur "Art" Barus, sister-in-law Trudy Barus, nephews Matthew and Mitchell Barus, uncle Bob Barus, aunt Helen Conger (Jerry), daughter Kristen, granddaughter Reese, numerous cousins and many wonderful friends. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of TrustBridge Hospice for the outstanding care they provided. There will be no funeral, rather a Celebration of his Life on Saturday, August 19 at Atlantis Country Club, 190 Atlantis Blvd., Atlantis, FL 33462 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. The family requests no flowers but if willing, donations to TrustBridge Hospice, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or Lake Worth Dollars for Scholars, LWDFS, PO Box 1166, Lake Worth, FL 33462.

Dear Barus family,
My five year old son, my beagle, and I love going for walks in our neighborhood and always enjoyed our stops we'd make at Biff's house. Abbey would always run out to greet us, and Biff would be close behind. We had lots of chats as my son would play basketball on the hoop Biff kept outside for the neighborhood kids.

We miss these visits but will always cherish our memories of them. Biff was always so friendly and easy to talk to. I'm sorry I'm just seeing this today...just a couple of days after his celebration of life ceremony. I'm sorry to have missed it, but please know that you are all in my prayers.

I always admired Dr Bob (Biff) for his love for life and fearless way he persued, attacked and enjoyed his many adventures. I have many fond memories of Biff from the 80's that I cherish. He was smart, funny, kind and generous. He loved a challenge and motivated me to do my best. A great friend I will never forget.

Biff, I really miss you. We had ups and downs, like brothers do, but boy did we have a lot of fun and crazy times together. Never a dull moment when I was with you. I miss that smile and that scruffy voice. Please give mom and dad a hug for me.

Love and miss you,

Art

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of this extraordinary young man, but he certainly lived life to the fullest while here among us and there will be a wonderful reunion one day with all his loved ones, family and friends. I regret that I didn't have the honor of meeting him, but I am a former friend and classmate of his uncle Bob and wanted to express my sincere sympathy to all. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

It was a pleasure to meet you, I'm not sure how it didn't happen while in school? But the spark was in your eyes as you showed me your style of life! God bless, RIP. Sharon Wintermute Palmer
