Thomas Henry Obituary

Jupiter-based fishing captain Thomas Henry died this afternoon from injuries suffered when he fell of his charter boat, the Waterdog, on Friday at the Jupiter Inlet, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Gabriella Ferraro confirmed.

Henry, 61, of Jupiter was thrown overboard around 12:30 p.m. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but there was heavy surf and very rough water conditions at the time, Ferraro said.

Henry was pulled out of the water by Palm Beach County lifeguards. He was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.

One mate and five customers were also aboard at the time, but no one else was injured, Ferraro said Friday.

I am stunned having just learned of Tom's passing. Our first year of college at Franklin & Marshall, Tom roomed across the hall from me. We bcame fast friends; turned out we grew up 6 miles apart - I lived in Vicksburg and graduated from Mifflinburg Hi. Tom was a great guy and I wish I had reconnected with him. I never knew he became an attorney and he never knew I became one! We certainly led "coincidental lives" but the best I remember about Tom was his adroit manner, coolness and great sense of humor. My sympathies to Pat, his brother Jim (who I remember) and the rest of the family.

To the Henry Family:
During this painful time I understand that it is the little things that are able to help you to endure. The knowing of what he was like before his death is comforting but also the knowing that soon the sting of death will be done away with is comforting. Revelations 21:3,4 assures us that such stings as death, pain and mourning will be done away with forever

My thoughts and prayers go out to Pat, Tom's beloved dog and his brother Jim. I just heard of Tom's accident and subsequent death this past Tuesday, and I have been spending my time remembering all of the special times we shared. In 1954, Aunt Helen, Uncle Dan, Tom and I went to Florida, and what a great time I had with my "little cousin", swimming in the ocean, walking the beach looking for sea shells and just enjoying ourselves. The last time that I saw Tom was when his mother passed away, and although that was over 20 years ago, I often thought of Tom and Pat, and how they were. Unfortunately, as what happens in many families, time and distance separated us, and we lost touch. May Tom be fishing in Heaven's ocean.

Dear Pat, My deepest sympathies go out to you for your loss. I have considered Tom a friend, mentor, and as a charter boat captain myself hold him in the highest regard for professionalism in the sportsfishing field.
You both invited me and Terry into your home one Christmas in Abacoa and as on the Water Dog everything was ship shape and the atmosphere was warm and friendly reflecting Tom's personality.
All of my encounters with Tom were nothing but positive. He is a man that will be truely missed by many.
If there is anything I can do to help during this time of grief please call.443-532-0687

Mrs. Henry: I have just learned of Tom's tragic death. You and I have never formally met. I bought a boat when I retired 15 years ago and met Tom through the natural course of things at Seasport Marina. He was so friendly and helpful from the very start that I came to have a deep liking and respect for him. My boat and my fishing out of Seasport have become a great joy to me, but things will not be the same without Tom.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

Dear Pat and all Family Members:

I first met Tom during the summer of 1993 while I was working for Bobby Gowar out of the Ocean City Fishing center on the "Liquidator". I stayed in touch with Tom for years and our paths crossed a lot in Ocean City and during the various tournements in the Northeast. I was never more happy for Tom when he won the 1996 white marlin division of the Mid Atlantic Tournement in Cape May. I remember hearing that they had caught a big one over the radio and remember thinking "I can't think of a nicer more honorable man for that to happen to." Tom was always good and polite to me and everyone around him and I will always remember him as being kind, respectful, outgoing, and willing to help anyone. I always felt comfortable approaching Tom or just walking up to the "Waterdog" to visit. Tom was a pleasure to be around and I cannot remember ever seeing him get angry or be rude or mean to anyone. I cannot remember anyone ever being mad at him either. He was a respected prince a of man with impeccable manors and a way with people that not many folks ever achieve. As I sit here writing this I think of Waterdog Tom and all of the time that I was blessed to spend with him, and I smile. I have thought about Tom several times a day since I learned about his tragic accident and litterally every time I think of him, I smile. Not many friends make me do that. He was just one of those special people that you don't meet every day and I cherrish all of my memories. I am truly sorry for your loss and for the loss to the family and I send all of you my deepest sympathies and condolences. Heaven is a much better place now that Tom is there. I will miss Tom excruciatingly but I will never forget him and I will always strive the treat folks the way he treated them. Take care and God bless you all.

I grew up across the yard from the Henry boys in Lewisburg, Pa. We were childhood buddies and we were in each others weddings. Unfortunately, I lost touch with Tom and Jim over 20 years ago and thought often about reconnecting over the years. We were sorry to hear the tragic news. Even though it's been a long time ago, we had a lot of laughs together. I will miss him. Our thoughts are with you Pat and brother Jim.

With our most sincere condolences, our thoughts and prayers are with Pat and Tom's family.

Fisherman's Prayer
God grant that I may live to fish,
until my dying day,
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray,
When in the Lord's safe landing net,
I'm peacefully asleep,
That in his mercy I be judged,
As big enough to keep.

Tom what can I say you were one of the finest fisherman and teachers that anyone could have ever met. I treasure the times that we spent fishing on the " Waterdog " and even times off the boat. I remember one of the best and funniest things that was said about you time and time again was " Tom was not always good on his feet, but he sure can dance " how true that is. I am very sorry we had lost touch with each other over the years, but I will never forget you as a friend and confidant. You are a true gentleman and one of the finest people that had ever came into my life, and I thank you for that. I am going to miss you very much, but hope to see you on the other side some day .
