Thomas SCHMITT Obituary

Thomas Schmitt, age 79, of Wellington, FL passed away in his home surrounded by family on May 11, 2018. He is survived by his wife Monica, his son Tom and his wife Cathy, his daughter Laura and her husband Jamie, his daughter Julie and her husband Chris, and his 6 grandchildren. Tom was born in Michigan in 1938 to Earl and Florence Schmitt. After graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1956, he took a job with Michigan Bell in 1958. After working abroad in Turkey for a year, Tom settled permanently in Florida, and retired from Southern Bell in 1994 after 36 years of service. Upon retirement, Tom accepted a full time job as a groundskeeper for Admiral's Cove Country Club, where he worked until his second retirement in 2017. Athletic by nature, Tom enjoyed many sports from bowling to softball, and he loved being outdoors. His true passion however was saved for the game of golf. With a better than average handicap, Tom remained an avid golfer well into the twilight of his life. Tom was a man fascinated by the sky and stars. He was a gifted storyteller, and he loved a good martini. But he will be most remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and for his kindness to family and strangers alike. A memorial service for Tom will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 3:00 5:00 pm at Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home located at 3041 Kirk Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33461. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation in Tom's name to the charity of your choice.
