William BOYNTON Obituary

BOYNTON,
William George
William George Boynton died on October 15, 2015 at the Oasis Rehabilitation Center in East Moriches, Long Island, NY after a brief illness. He lived in East Moriches and also in Boynton Beach, FL, at Quail Ridge Country Club. He was born in Chiquicamata, Chile on April 15, 1919 to Marie and Leland Boynton. He attended grammar school in East Moriches, then Fishburne Military Academy and Cheshire Academy before graduation from Yale in 1941. Upon graduation, he was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Pearl Harbor. When the Japanese attacked on December 7, 1941, he remained at his post at the Communication Center for five days. When he returned to his quarters, his closets were empty. Three survivors from the sunken battleships had to have something to wear. After two years in Hawaii and three years in Washington, DC, he was discharged as a Lt. Commander. His business career was with Fleishmanns Industries, as Vice President, which later became Standard Brands. His first wife, Eleanor Norton Boynton, died in 1963. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, William; his granddaughter, Eleanor and his step children, Sharon Lorenzo, Glenn and Susan Murray. His body was donated to science through MedCure. His ashes will be interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in East Moriches at a later date.

I'm so sad to just be finding out this news. Uncle Bill was an amazing man and I will cherish all of my childhood memories spent with him. Now he is at peace with his sister and the Cassilly family. I was the last one until we had our daughter 7 years ago. We have a picture of Uncle Bill in our stairwell and his memory will forever live on through me and my stories. Sending my love and condolences!!Love always!!Jennifer Cassilly
