William Casey Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

WILLIAM J. CASEY 78, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife and family on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 in North Palm Beach, FL after a brief illness. "Big Bill" was born in Springfield, MA, and was an Eagle Scout and Altar Boy as a youth in Caldwell, NJ. He flew airplanes in the Navy and went to Princeton before starting his advertising career at J. Walter Thompson. He married Jacqueline Burns in 1946, and they raised five children while he spent 20 years on Madison Avenue holding top creative positions on major accounts at Doyle Dane Bernbach, Ogilvy & Mather, Young & Rubicam and Marschalk of Interpublic. He wrote some of the most memorable and effective advertising of our time for Polaroid, Xerox, White Owl, Quaker Oats and the Coca-Cola Company. He was highly regarded as one of the finest ad men of his day, and he spent time with New York writers of the day such as George DeCoo, Jimmy Breslin and Walt Kelly. An inventor with five patents, he moved his family to South Florida in 1971, where he began painting and enjoyed his grandchildren while continuing to work as a consultant in the exciting field of new product development. An accomplished golfer, he had six holes-in-one, and his course record of 30 for the back nine on the East Course At Boca Lago Country Club still stands. In his later years, he would enjoy carefully rendering a beautiful golfscape of a par three, and then present the framed painting to a friend or family member that had aced the hole. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 58 years, Jacqueline B. Casey; daughter, Sharon Tormey of Wallon Lake, MI; daughter, Eileen Reid of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughter, Betsy Ross of Huntersville, NC; son, Dan Casey of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; son, Dr. Paul Casey of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Jacqueline Stanton of Bethesda, MD; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dear sister, Barbara Graubit. His friends and family will gather for a Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 3:00 PM at St. Clare's Catholic Church, 821 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Thomas L. Price Funeral Home 553 Northlake Boulevard North Palm Beach, FL 33408 (561) 842-1555

Dear Aunt Jackie and all my Casey Cousins,

We will all miss Uncle Bill. I'll miss those weekly phone calls to check on his sister - he'd always hang up before I got a chance to say anything mushy like how much I appreciated his concern. Mom always talked about the Princeton Days- how nice he was to invite all the Caldwell gang to Princeton. She never stopped bragging about her brother- the Princeton man. He once gave her a set of Princeton glasses which were her favorite - I still have one. She kept a tiger on her bookshelf to remind her of Bill. She had one of his paintings in her room and I have the Princeton Golf picture in my dining room. He was an amazingly talented man - Ads, Commercials, Inventions, Paintings! As a little kid I remember whenever one of Uncle Bill's commercials was on TV we'd all rush into the room to watch it -WOW what a thrill -was I proud of him! Love You Uncle Bill! Sue
