Brian Swank Obituary

Brian Glenn Swank

January 3, 1979 - July 3, 2025

Brian "The Legend" Glenn Swank, age 46, of Bloomington, passed away Thursday July 3, 2025, at OSF St. Joseph Hospital. He was born on January 3, 1979.

Brian is survived by his life partner Christina Somers; a biological daughter; father Charles Swank III; mother Nileen Curry; stepmother Verna Prewitt; brother Charles (Wendy) Swank IV; brother Michael Swank; sister Tegan Swank; stepbrother Kelly Prewitt and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind several lifelong friends in the Bloomington-Normal community.

He was preceded in death by a nephew; Nathaniel Araya Swank and a cousin; Christopher Swank.

Those who merely knew him as a member of the Bloomington bar and restaurant scene for the past 25 years would describe him as the life of the party, with never a dull moment when he was around. Those who knew him better, as friends or as family, should know that to call him such is to miss all that he truly was. Possessing a unique charisma that drew people in, to be considered someone he loved was a gift, and one never forgot they were loved because Brian would not allow it, and for that he was adored.

His service industry experience greatly contributed to his passion for culinary arts, which led to a penchant for sharing his meals on social media, either prepared by him, or promoting his favorite local establishments.

He was an avid music lover of all genres, with his favorite being Alice in Chains. Also a sports fan, his favorite teams were the Houston Astros, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Dallas Cowboys. And he absolutely adored his Pomeranian, Otis.

Brian was truly one of a kind. He had the impressive ability to take any situation, no matter how seemingly monotonous or frivolous, and turn it into something fun and to be remembered. He made life an experience instead of just a series of moments that pass the days.

Everyone that knew him has a story (or several) to tell. The stories he left us will live on with those who loved him. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Processing this is still difficult, but knowing Brian would probably crack a joke about the situation helps a little. His ability to find humor in everything will always be remembered. LVE YOU BROTHER.
