David Geiselman Obituary

David William Geiselman

February 15, 1960 - July 6, 2025

BLOOMINGTON - David William Geiselman, 65, of Bloomington, died at 1:29 p.m., Sunday, July 6th, at Luther Oaks, Bloomington.

A private graveside service will be held. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family suggests memorials be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 1700 N. Towanda Ave, Normal, IL 61761 or Smith Alzheimer's Center-Research, SIU School of Medicine, 751 N. Rutledge St., Suite 3100, Springfield, IL 62702-9643.

Dave was born February 15, 1960, at Normal, a son of Donald Eugene Geiselman and Nancy Joyce Geiselman.

He married Maggi Pratt on March 28, 2018. She survives.

He is also survived by his father, Don; and his brother, Steven Geiselman.

Dave excelled in football and track at El Paso High School. He was a proud Eagle Scout. He graduated from Western Illinois University in Finance on an Army ROTC Scholarship. He was a member of the ROTC shooting team and was commissioned as an Army lieutenant upon graduation.

Dave attended special training at Airborne and Air Assault schools. He left the Army as a captain and served in the reserve after that.

Dave lived his life with gusto! He loved to jump out of jets. He was a sixth-degree black belt studying in Japan and Decatur.

An expert rifle and pistol marksman, Dave also became Advance Open Water Scuba certified and took many diving trips with his friends in the Midwest and to the Caribbean. He was a committed deer hunter with bow and gun. His friends fondly called him "Buckmaster".

Dave finished his 30-plus year career with State Farm as a financial planner with an MBA in Business from ISU and many other designations, working with agents to secure their clients' financial futures.

Most importantly, Dave loved to help people. Nine months after Dave and Maggi married, he was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer's. For nearly three years, he participated in a worldwide study at SIU, Springfield, undergoing all sorts of tests and shots. The study closed, but his hope was that he would help others someday.

A heartfelt thanks to Peggy Bliss, Krystal Orris, Lida Ortega and the Sisterhood, Ann Jirmasek (SIU) and the angels at Luther Oaks Memory Care.
