Glenda Hazelrigg Obituary

Glenda P. Hazelrigg

July 1, 1943 - December 31, 2024

BLOOMINGTON - Glenda P. Hazelrigg, 81, of Bloomington, IL, formerly a long-time resident of Jacksonville, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in Bloomington.

Glenda was born July 1, 1943, in Beardstown, the daughter of Glenn W. and Carlin Vern (Shelton) Davis. She married Don Hazelrigg on December 16, 1961. Don passed away in 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Toni (Eric) Niepagen, Martha Colwell, and Amy Plangger, all of Bloomington-Normal; six grandchildren, Alex (Kelsey) Niepagen of Normal, Abigail (Garrett) Collins of Indianapolis, Luke Colwell of Chicago, Jack Colwell of Normal, Jake Plangger and Olivia Plangger, both of Bloomington; three great-granddaughters, and several nephews, including Steven Wease of Springfield whom she raised in her Jacksonville home. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Franklin Donald Davis, and one sister, Sandra Rohrer.

Glenda was a 1961 graduate of Virginia High School. Following graduation, she met her husband, Don, when working in his State Farm agency office in Jacksonville. She enjoyed the many trips they shared with other State Farm agents, with fondest memories of traveling to Austria, Germany, London, Portugal and Spain. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs for many years. Glenda served as the Village President of South Jacksonville from 1989-1993 where she took pride in working to expand the economic growth and development of the community.

Glenda was an extraordinary cook, recipe collector, and took pleasure in knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and was notably praised for her beef stroganoff, homemade vegetable soup, German chocolate cake, and banana muffins. She dearly loved her family and made sure her daughters, and each grandchild knew she loved them up to the very last moment of her life.

Her life's mission was fulfilled through homemaking, unwavering support and pride for her family, including taking care of her parents and in-laws in their elder years. Her legacy of love, sense of humor, and enjoyment in preparing home cooked meals will live on through her children and grandchildren.

Cremation rights have been accorded. Memorials are suggested to, Two Rivers Land Bank Authority (checks payable to 200 West Douglas Avenue, Jacksonville IL. 62650), and Traditions Hospice (checks payable to 7800 Sommer St. Suite 410 Peoria IL. 61615).
