James "Jim" Roger Alvey

LEROY - James "Jim" Roger Alvey, 89, of LeRoy, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at OSF St. Joseph in Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at St. Mary Church in Downs. A memorial mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at a later date in Wyanet, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wish Bone Canine Rescue or McLean County Humane Society.
Jim was born May 2, 1934, a son of Charles Henry and Sue Emma (Girten) Alvey. He married Barbara Helen Herron May 21, 1960, in Wyanet, IL.
Surviving are children: Brian (Tara) Alvey, Bruce (Laurie) Alvey, Lisa (Bill) Toohill, and Lori (Larry) Baker; brother, Jerry Alvey; sister, Mary Mixon; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five siblings: Evelyn White, Charles Alvey, Nancy Peterson, Eddie Alvey, and Joe Alvey; daughter-in-law, Pam Alvey.
Jim was a member of the St. Mary Church in Downs. He worked as a meat cutter for many years. Jim owned and operated Alvey's Market in Gridley, IL, from 1975 to the mid 1980s. He was a passionate Chicago Cubs fan, loved to play cards and listen to classic country music. He was an avid bowler having bowled a perfect 300 at age 61. Jim most of all loved being involved with his kids and grandkids sports and hobbies. Jim was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, coach, mentor, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

I knew Jim from working at Schnucks. He was always a gentleman and very even keeled with a good sense of humor. My sympathies to his loved ones and know that he will be missed.
