Judy A. Schertz
EUREKA - Judy A. Schertz, of Eureka, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, July 22, 2024. She was 74 years old.
Judy was raised in Eureka by her parents, Eugene and Elizabeth "Betty" Sharpe. She met her first love and lifelong soulmate, Randy, at such a young age, that he would ride his bicycle to visit her. So began a lifetime of unyielding love and unconditional support, enduring everything from a tour in Vietnam to raising four children to cancer diagnoses.
As Judy and Randy began their journey together, their mutual love (and talent) for music brought them joy, connection, and an honest living. Judy taught piano lessons, played next to Randy in a fun-loving cover band, helped him grow a successful music business, and provided Sunday morning organ music in church. They were inseparable in both their work and recreation, which most frequently involved family gatherings or being on the water.
In retirement, they bought a lakefront condo in Missouri to turn their summer trips into a more prominent part of their lives. Their home also became a gathering space for their beloved grandkids, because who else has golf cart rides, a custom all-weather sandbox, a barn with riding horses, endless art supplies, or can provide hours on the boat being tossed around the wake on a tube? Through it all, Judy found so much satisfaction and purpose in making sure others were happy, healthy, and had their bellies full.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Randy D. Schertz, of Eureka; and her parents, Gene and Elizabeth (Johnson) Sharpe of Eureka. She leaves behind their four children: Christie (Jonathan) Ray of Maryland, Andrew (Natasha) Schertz of Eureka, Timothy Schertz of Eureka, Libby (Corey) Aeschleman of Central Illinois; seven grandchildren, and her brothers, Tim (Janet) Sharpe of New Jersey, and Tom (Cheryl) Sharpe of Georgia.
Friends and family were invited to celebrate her life during a visitation held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., and a funeral service held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., both were at the Eureka Presbyterian Church. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pink Ribbon Good or Eureka's Heart House in her memory.

I was blessed to know Judy through her giving piano lessons to all 4 of our children. We became friends and loved the time together at kids´ lessons. Soon the kids became friends throughout this time period too. Such fond and happy memories

Judy and I grew up in Edgewood together and often rode her pony, Alice. We loved The Beach Boys and made up dance routines to their music. When visiting my family in Eureka, I often saw Judy playing the organ at the Presbyterian church. We always reconnected. Lovely memories of a lovely person.

Will never forget that Judy made sure my daughter had a special Easter basket at age 2 when my mom passed unexpectedly. She said that Grandma would´ve loved it & would´ve made it special for her. Judy made sure it happened. I´ll always remember, always be grateful, & always love her love of family. And we were late in life step family. She simply lived for family. Such a special lady..
