TOWANDA - Richard E. McGuire, 94, passed away on June 9, 2025, at the Arc of Normal in Normal, Ill.
Richard was born on February 26, 1931, in Normal, Ill., son of Ferdinand and Martha (Dillon) McGuire. He married Elizabeth Miller on March 31, 1955, in Normal, Ill. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2017.
He retired in 1981 as Normal Police Chief.
Surviving Richard is his son, Mark (Ann) McGuire; one grandson, Matt McGuire. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings: Jim, Margaret, Miriam and Ethel.
Services for Richard will be 11 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2025, at Calvert Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, Ill. with Rev. Steven Evans officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service Monday, June 16, 2025, at Calvert Metzler Memorial Home. Burial at East Lawn Memorial Gardens will follow the service. Memorials may be made in Richard's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I worked for Dick McGuire at NPD for 3 years in the 70's. The Chief was a wonderful man and very professional. He had everything under control at all times and was very cheerful while doing so.
I have always been grateful for the experience of working and learning from such a disciplined and kind man.

I grew up "down the hill" from the McGuire´s, and was at their home often. Chief McGuire was a great influence in my life and in choosing my career path. Rest in peace Sir.
