Richard Wilson Obituary
July 16, 1933 - May 26, 2025
Richard Roe "Dick" Wilson, 91, of Bloomington, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 at Martin Health Center. He was born on July 16, 1933 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Roe and Fern Wilson. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Kersten.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 71 years, Janet (Graf), and his children Mike(Janet) Wilson, Newark, Ohio, Nancy(Suresh) Nirody, Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathy(Fred) Knapp, Crossville, Tennessee, and Jane(Scott) Flewelling, Champaign, Illinois. Dick was affectionately called "Poppo" by his grandchildren, Nick (Missy) Wilson, Shannon(Jonathan) Kurtz, Ben(Shannon) Meadors, Emily(Christopher) Roberts, Kelley Knapp, Amy(Evan) Spencer, Brady Knapp, Kristofer, Samantha and Kreighton Flewelling and seven great grandchildren.
Dick attended Bloomington High School and was an active member of the Bloomington Track Team graduating in 1951. He then attended Illinois State University until he enlisted in the Army in 1952, achieving the rank of Corporal.
Following his time in the Army, Dick spent his entire working career in the automotive industry. He managed a Standard Oil Station, was a field sales representative at Moran Automotive, parts manager at Harjak Motors and finished his career managing Wilson Automotive Paint and Supply, all in Bloomington.
He enthusiastically supported the Bloomington High School athletic teams over the years and was a member of the Bloomington H.S. Booster Club. An avid biker and runner, Dick participated in countless road races around the central Illinois area. He was the #1 fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and the Fighting Illini.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the future. Memorials in Dick's name can be made to the Bloomington High School Booster Club, Bloomington High School, 1202 East Locust Street, Bloomington, IL 61701.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carriage Crossing, Martin Health Center and the Transitions Hospice team for the loving care they gave Dick.
