Sam Hendricks Obituary

Sam Hendricks

March 18, 1957 - January 5, 2025

The family of Sam W Hendricks (1957-2025) is saddened to report his passing in the early morning hours Sunday January 5, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.

Sam was a cherished grandfather, a dedicated father, an amazing husband, a brother, a son and a friend.

Born in Bloomington, Ill., on March 18, 1957, to Samuel W. & Betty J. Hendricks, he spent much of his childhood in Bloomington before relocating to Danvers during high school. In high school and beyond, Sam worked as a stock boy at Eisners/Jewel creating lasting memories and life long friends. After graduating from Olympia High School, he went on to the electrical apprenticeship. Sam worked as a commercial foreman electrician with William Masters Inc until retirement. Bloomington/Normal is scattered with landmarks that will forever bring fond memories to his kids and even co-workers. His family will always be proud of the contribution he made through his dedication to his trade.

In 1977, Sam met the love of his life, Elizabeth Hetz, and they married on December 4, 1982. Sam purchased an old one room school house which would become a joyful and exciting DIY adventure, remaining their lifelong family home. Sam and Beth had three children, Amanda, Sam and Jeff who were the light of his life. He was a hard working family man, who provided well for his family. If he wasn't on a job site, he could be found at home with his extended family or traveling to watch his kids play sports.

An avid Euchre player, much like his dad, he took his game seriously. He played his last earthly game at the 2024 Christmas gathering. He enjoyed getting away to Las Vegas for the Monster Jam Finals and taking family vacations with his children and grandchildren creating treasured family memories.

In retirement, Sam could be found winning at Euchre no matter his partner, occasionally losing a rummy match to his grandsons, Ethan and Matt, roasting marshmallows with sweet Maddie, harvesting crops with little Sam or tossing mealworms to his chickens with the grandkids before collecting eggs. He kept busy splitting wood with his son year round. He enjoyed lottery crosswords, watching sports with his sons, collecting coins, scrapping metal, visiting with his sister or grabbing a meal at Busy Corner, getting to know whoever happened to be sitting at the counter.

Although no longer in this world, Sam will hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him.

Sam is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Beth" (Hetz) Hendricks, of Danvers; his children, Amanda (Greg) Colwell, of Chillicothe, Sam (Katie) Hendricks, of Eureka, Jeff (Ashley Gargus) Hendricks, of Mackinaw; grandchildren, Jack, Hannah, Bella, Ethan, Matthew, Samuel, Madelyn, Lily with another one on the way; and four siblings, Lora, Lisa, Hollie and Steve.

Sam is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest P. and Lucy Bavester Hendricks and Roy and Grace Shobe; parents, Samuel and Betty Hendricks; and grandson, Jaxson Adam Hendricks.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations to The Salvation Army or asks that you plant an Oak Tree in his remembrance.

Services will be held at East Lawn Funeral home on Tuesday January 14, 2025 at noon. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service. A graveside burial will immediately follow services and is reserved for family.

Dear Dr. Sam- so sorry to read of the passing of your dear Dad. Definitely see a resemblance and see his name has been carried on for a least 3 generations! Wishing you God´s peace and comfort in the loss of this special man in your lives- at what seems an untimely passing. Beth
