GALVESTON: Don David Stone age 78 of Weslaco, formerly of Pasadena died Thursday December 27, 2018 at Mid Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mercedes, Texas. Funeral services are 10:00am Friday January 4, 2019 at Carnes Funeral Home 3100 I-45 N in Texas City, Reverend Tom Allen officiating. Graveside services to include Masonic burial rites under the Auspices of Pasadena Lodge # 1155 AF & AM will follow at Grand View Memorial Park 8501 Spencer Hwy in Pasadena. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday at the funeral home. Born March 17, 1940 in Cooper, Texas to George Deward Stone and Lella Emerald Taylor Stone, Don grew up in Navasota, Texas where he lived as a boy because his parents worked as educators, his father a professor at Texas A & M and his mother in the School District. The family moved to Pasadena where Don played the Clarinet in the Pasadena High School Band and met and married, (before they graduated), his wife of 52 years Deloris Ann Cain. Don was Baptist by faith and was a great family man taking the family on vacations traveling the country. Don was a member of the Pasadena Lodge #1155 AF& AM. There were not many states that the family did not see as Don loved to travel. After high school Don worked various jobs including Sears and Brown and Root. He eventually landed a job with Ethyl Corp. as a Machinist, a job he would keep the rest of his working career, retiring as an operator in 1999. In his retirement years Don remarried Sue Engle and the couple spent many happy years traveling in their motor home around the country, settling in the South Texas Rio Grande Valley. Preceded in death by his parents George Deward Stone and Lella Emerald Taylor Stone, wife of 52 years Deloris Ann Cain Stone; daughter, Donna D'Ann Stone; survivors include his wife Sue Engle Stone of Weslaco, Texas; sons, Martin Aaron Stone and wife Sue Ellen of Pearland and Mike S. Stone and wife Karen of League City; granddaughter Heather D'Ann Stone Smith and husband Jordan of Houston; great granddaughters Jade Rose Smith and Violet Raine Smith of Houston; step sons, Mark Smith and wife Stacie of Frisco, Texas, Jeff K. Smith and wife Carrie of Crossett, Arkansas, Byron Smith and wife Allison of Greenville, Texas, Jason Smith and wife Melissa of Morrilton, Arkansas and Dustin Engle and wife Jessica of Pearland; 15 grandchildren and many friends. Pallbearers are Dustin Engle, John D. Smith, Brett Upton, Steve Upton, Jordan Smith and Dan Moore. Honorary Pallbearers are Hector Fonseca, Russell Godfrey, Wayne Bittick, Joe Bechard, David Bruno and Pat Patrick.

Our deepest sympathy to the Stone family in the passing of Don. He was a great, kind person. Our sympathy to you Sue, in the loss of Don.
Have enjoyed many years of RVing with him. Have good memories of good times in the valley going over to Mexico with Don, Deloris, Duffie and Charlene.
