Gloria Smith Obituary

Gloria Walker Smith entered her eternal home on Feb. 5, 2021 in Tyler TX at the age of 90. She was born March 11, 1930 to Horace and Ann Walker, raised in Austin TX, and attended the University of Texas-Austin. In 1949 she married Chester N. Smith and they had 5 children, who were all raised in Ft. Stockton TX: Terri Langen (Flint TX), Charlotte Wilson (deceased, of Whitney TX), April Holden (Flint TX), Marshall Smith (deceased, formerly of Deer Park) and Kevin Smith (Montgomery TX.

After the kids were grown, Gloria moved back to Austin to care for her aging parents. She worked at Franklin Savings & Loan for many years. In 1996 she moved to Pasadena TX & soon went to work for the Pasadena Citizen newspaper. She remained close to all of her colleagues until her death. She found her lifelong ambition to be able to be part of the performing arts, with long-time friend Sara Cargill, and to write about the productions extensively. She always had a heart for helping others, especially those less fortunate. She had a wonderful quick wit and sense of humor. She loved and was active in her church, First Baptist of Pasadena.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Martha Stasney of Buda, two of her children, Charlotte and Marshall, her grandchildren Tommy Joe Holden, infants C.J. Smith and Summer Diane Miller and son-in-law John Holden. She will be greatly missed by her remaining children, Terri and Dan Langen, April Holden, Kevin and Kay Smith, in-love kids Terry Condon and Lawrence (Bud) Wilson as well as 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

No services are scheduled at this time due to Covid precautions. Memorials will be held later this year.

Any donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Samaritan's Purse, The Gideons International or charity of your choice.
