25, passed unexpectedly from this life on December 11th, 2014. Jake was born May 31, 1989 to the union of Glenn and Mary Oetken. He is survived in death by his parents, his sister and her husband Lauren and Josh Gosnell and their daughter Kennedy, whom he loved boundlessly. Jake also had a close extended family: Christy and David, Bob and Rebecca, Mike and Karen, Craig, Patti and John. His many cousins include: Jonathan, Casey, Jennifer, Chris and Dede, Mandy and Dabian, Heather and Geoff, Jonathan, Chris, Myrenthia, Vanessa, Wade, Jeremy, Aaron, Rebekah, their spouses and children. Jake is preceded in death by his military brothers-in-arms, Uncle Marvin, as well as his fraternal grandparents Milton and Virginia and maternal grandparents Joseph and Christine. Jake obtained the rank of Corporal while serving for over 3 years in the United States Army. He contributed to the fight against terror in the infantry as a Vehicle Commander/Team Leader with Comanche Company, 1st platoon, in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. As a decorated veteran of a foreign war, he received an Honorable Discharge and returned to Houston to the family and friends he dearly loved. Jake enjoyed socializing and had many close, long-time friends from school, the Army and his job. Known as "Chief" to his friends, he loved to joke, laugh, visit, quote movie lines, and was always tinkering with his or friend's motorcycles, guns, and trucks. Jake made friends easily and their parents tended to adopt him as their own. Memorial Services for Jake will be held at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena on Friday, December 19th at 2pm. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the veteran group Team RWB.

A loss of our loved ones is never easy to deal with, but we have hope. We are given a promise and hope that we can see our loves again. They will live on the earth, in peace, and forever.

Mary and Oetken family,
We embrace you so tenderly with our thoughts and prayers that our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father lead your heart to a quiet place of rest and comfort you during this time.
Psalms 23
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
With deepest sympathy,

Glenn and Mary - Jake crammed so much into his 25 years - I'm sure he was a wonderful son, brother, and uncle. He spoke of his family and how much he cared for each of you. I know what a wonderful friend he was. He would have done anything for any of them at any time. He served his country with pride! I know I can speak for all of my family when I say, we will miss your son.

As Jacob's uncle I had the privilege to share his life from the time he was a small cotton top child to watch him become the fine honorable man that he still is. He is only waiting for us with our Lord and our family on the other side of that sunrise where life is never ending. We will see him again, but not yet. Let us honor him by living life to the fullest. I love you Jacob. God bless you.
