Lee Cate Obituary

Lee Ellen Cate, 81 of Houston passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Lee was born March 27, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Curtis and Jewell Stevens. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Murray Cate; children, Cathy Finck & husband David and Charlie Cate & wife Becky; grandchildren, Jamie Finck Craig & husband Campbell, Audrey Finck, Kaela Kirk, Joe Finck, Maia Kirk, Will Finck, Hannah Cate, Peter Cate and Isabel Cate; brother, Ed Stevens and sisters, Joyce Allen and Evvy Ruby. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Lee grew up in Oak Cliff, TX and attended Texas Women's University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing. She had a long career as a registered nurse and taught nursing school in Beirut, Lebanon for 2 years after she graduated from TWU. Lee met and married Jim Cate in Dallas at Scofield Memorial Church. Lee and Jim raised their family in Grand Prairie, Texas and then Cedar Hill, Texas. Lee and Jim moved to Houston in 1995 to be close to their family. They raised their family with faith in Jesus as the cornerstone for everything.

Lee enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing and carpentry projects at their home. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She inherited her father's sense of humor. She was quick with a joke and loved to make people laugh and feel welcomed. She was loved by those who knew her and is greatly missed, but we know that she is at home with the Lord, rejoicing and celebrating with all her family who went before her.

Lee Ellen was my baby sister, 2 1/2 years younger than I. During our later years, even though I live in CA, Lee was my closest confidante. We spoke frequently, shared humor, and prayed for each other. I miss her terribly, even now in 2022. I had never seen her obit. until just now. What a gifted person she was. So glad she is at home with Jesus and I'll see her again, maybe soon.
