After the burial, a reception will be hosted by the Catholic Daughters back at St. Hyacinth's Guyot Hall. Maria was born in Robstown, Texas to Cruz and Celestina Zavala on April 25, 1941. Needing to work to help support the family she left school after the 7 th grade. A tireless worker and goal setter Maria went on to obtain her GED and then LVN license at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX. Maria moved to Deer Park, TX in 1967 with her husband to raise their family. She was actively involved in her children's school organizations and activities. As a nurse Maria worked at various local hospitals and retired with the Harris County Clinic. She also assisted on the State Voting Association, was a member of the Catholic Daughters, a church committee member, a Eucharistic Minister, a Sunday School Teacher, an active church bazaar participant, a nursing volunteer after retirement, and a constant kind spirit and light for those in need. Maria had a special gift to believe in people more than they believed in themselves and was a motivator to many in more ways than she realized. She was an unparalleled cook who enjoyed spending time with her family and seeing the joy she provided with their obvious pleasure at the dinner table. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Cruz Zavala Sr. and Celestina Pieda; three brothers Jose Angel Zavala, Cruz Zavala Jr., Andres Zamora; and two sisters Francisca Gonzalez and Augustine Zamora. Maria is survived by her husband Albert Solis Vega Sr; three sons Albert (Monica) Vega Jr., Christopher Vega, and Larry (Cheryl) Vega; one daughter Irene (Alex) Aragon; one step-son Al (Brenda) Coleman; twelve grandchildren Heather (Alexander) Schiller, Ariel Vega, Nathan Vega, Larry C. Maria was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Cousin, Aunt, and Friend and she will truly be missed by all. We take comfort knowing you're now in our Lord's warm embrace.
