On May 13, 2014, Marshall Hayes Hatley, at the age of 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior. Marshall was born on December 21, 1932 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Marshall served as a proud U.S. Air Force Staff Sargent, earning National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct medals while serving his country. With his beloved first wife, Shirley (deceased), of 22 years, they had three wonderful children. While still a young family, Mr. Hatley shared his passion for mathematics with his students at Edison Jr. High in Houston, Tx. He spent 45 years enjoying his work with computers at General Electric and Texas Instruments. Yearning to help young people further their education, he devotedly taught and mentored students at San Jacinto College, Pasadena, Tx. After retirement he found great pleasure singing with a quartet. His sweet spirit, humor, generous spirit and Sunday School teachings will live on forever and serve as an inspiration to many. He was blessed in life by his 29 years of joyful marriage to Kathryn and is also survived by son Marshall, daughter Robin, stepdaughter Danielle and her husband Mark, and grandchildren Lillia and Myles. He was preceded in death by son, Tad. The viewing will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 18the, and the funeral is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday, May 19the, both at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Tx.

I am so sorry for your loss, Aunt Kathi. I so enjoyed Uncle Hayes' unique sense of humor. I spent much of my time in his presence wondering, "was he joking?" or "did he mean that to be funny" and then I would look over and see that twinkle in his eye and I would know. He got me!
